JOB OVERVIEW
The Director - Teaching Institutions will be responsible for partnering with academic institutions to deliver expert training and support to the medical students and developing surgeons in these areas. The Director will be responsible for acting as the primary contact and liaison with the academic institutions, providing ongoing support for training of residents and academic staff while delivering on sales objectives and organizational goals. The Director will be accountable for calling on physicians and staff within teaching hospitals, clinics, and operating rooms on the EVO ICL. Additionally, the Director will build a business strategy to further support ongoing needs in the Institutions in the US which will include hiring and management of a small institutions team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Hires and manages the staff that execute strategy for teaching institutions.
- Develops, manages, and measures the annual strategy for the teaching institutions account function.
- Builds STAAR Surgical relationships by identifying key decision makers and establishing communication with physician staff, residents, and fellows at all US academic institutions.
- Leads educational presentations and surgical wet labs at Institutions and major medical meetings
- Coordinates cross functional corporate initiatives that enhance STAAR Surgical’s support in the academic institutions.
- Handles the annual resident hand-off program with the surgical field sales team.
- Initiates current sales opportunities and educates by building business/professional relationships within major teaching hospitals, academic centers, to satisfy sales goals and achieve quota targets.
- Develop annual resident training in-person weekend ICL program.
- Identifies and fosters relationships with key physicians, residents, and fellows to support training with EVO ICLs through speaking engagements, publishing, and other opportunities.
- Demonstrates strong clinical abilities to discuss products in the operating room, assist with efficiencies in the clinic and perform product in-services.
Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ Years of Proven Experience in a medical device sales leadership role
- 5+ years in an Institutions sales role
- 10+ years Ophthalmology OR experience
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs.; Assoc. +6 yrs.)
Travel Requirements: 50-60% with some overnights
