Job Description

At PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), we believe that every person has the right to participate fully in the global economy. Our mission is to democratize financial services to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or economic standing, has access to affordable, convenient, and secure products and services to take control of their financial lives.

Summary: What you need to know about the role: PayPal is seeking a Director to join its Global Income Tax Reporting & Compliance team. This position, reporting to the Director of Global Income Tax Compliance, is responsible for the U.S. international aspects for over 80 foreign entities in support of the global tax provision, domestic tax compliance, tax controversy, and planning. The role requires subject matter expertise in subpart F, active banking, GILTI, foreign tax credits, FDII, foreign currency matters, and M&A. You, the ideal candidate, will have the personal drive, passion, and enthusiasm to both understand and successfully navigate a fast-growing company in a rapidly evolving marketplace. You will have a hands-on style – one that looks to become personally involved in all elements of managing your functional responsibility, and who seeks to develop like-minded future leaders with similar capabilities. You are a self-starter with the ability to operate independently and manage multiple completing priorities and deadlines.

:

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Determine and maintain supporting documentation for §861 allocations to foreign source income
  • Support M&A projects, including tax due diligence, review of tax sections in acquisition agreements, and post-acquisition integration/compliance
  • Provide US-outbound tax planning support for international operations including repatriation strategies, foreign tax credit optimization and local country tax planning opportunities
  • Review Forms 5471, 8858 and 8865, and 1118
  • Support process improvement initiatives to increase overall efficiency of the U.S. International tax process
  • Review quarterly and annual U.S. international (subpart F, GILTI, foreign tax credit) calculations for inclusion into the global effective tax rate calculation
  • Ensure internal control processes over the U.S. international tax function are properly performed and documented
  • Maintain supporting calculations and documentation of earnings and profits pools, tax pools, PTEP, and U.S. tax basis for foreign subsidiaries and/or branches
  • Monitor and analyze final and proposed tax legislation in coordination with the tax policy and advisory teams
  • Assist in tax controversy matters
  • Prepare/review required elections and disclosures such as check-the-box elections, DCLs, etc.
  • Train, mentor and develop direct report(s)
  • Analyze and calculate taxable distributions, §78 gross-ups, §956 inclusions, §986(c) gains/losses, §987 gains/losses, subpart F income, ECI, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • 12+ years of progressive U.S. international tax experience in Big 4 public accounting and publicly held multinational company
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher; CPA required, Masters in Taxation preferred
  • Resourcefulness and adaptability; self-motivated with ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Proficiency with Excel; experience with CorpTax and SAP preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • People management experience
  • Ability to present and explain complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills
  • Significant experience in financial reporting and domestic compliance for U.S. international tax matters, including Subpart F, GILTI, foreign tax credits, and repatriation of foreign earnings
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team
