Summary Of The Main Function/purpose Of The Position
To ensure empowerment-based, best practice participant services are provided to youth participants. Plans, develops, and manages youth programs, including Shelter Youth childcare, On site School, and Camp Hope. The Director of Youth Services also plans, manages and develops these programs. This position is visible in the community and requires a high level of professionalism and the ability to establish and maintain relationships with other agencies and funders. Supervises the Kid's Team Advocates, daycare staff, Camp Hope staff and volunteers and coordinates activities. Ensures high quality programs are available to all children residing in shelter and through Camp Hope.
Occasional duties or projects which may be performed at irregular intervals:
Control of Costs: Has accountability for costs invoked by the department. Approves departmental and employee expenses as required.
Budgets: Must maintain expenditures to ensure they are within the department's budget. Compiles information and assists the supervisor with preparing the department's budget.
Policy Planning and Development: Is instrumental in the department's policy development and implementation.
Customer Service: Has high degree of responsibility for maintaining quality services to children and families. Represents The Spring with professionalism.
Records: Oversees that records and documentation are accurate and current.
Quality Control: Oversees the department and ensures high quality care and counseling are provided by staff members.
External: Has contact with community leaders during program monitoring visits, presentations, educational purposes, and shelter tours. Occasionally has contact with representatives of funding sources during programmatic monitoring visits.
Specialized Or Technical Educational Requirements
Requires completion of 45 hour DCF Childcare training course, CPR and first aid.
Director's Credentials from DCF.
16 hours of training each year, after completion of 30 hour CORE training, regarding the dynamics of domestic violence and intervention.
Certification Or Licensing Requirements
Child Development Associate (CDA), Director Credentials, and 2 years of Childcare experience.
Must successfully pass a background screening for child care licensing as required by law.
Must successfully pass FBI background screening.
Must have Valid Drivers License

Computer (word processing and spreadsheet applications).

The position requires verbal communication on an individual and group basis (in person and by telephone), supervising groups of children and teens, and compiling/preparing reports. Requires typing and use of computer technologies and software programs. Traveling to public and private educational facilities and presenting information to groups and individuals is also required. The position requires walking, standing, sitting, reaching, climbing steps and using hands. Stooping and crouching are sometimes required (to play with children and to sit on the floor with the group). Talking and hearing is required most of the time. The job requires lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds. The position also requires close vision for preparing and viewing documents and ability to adjust focus.

- Coordinates meaningful, fun, and engaging services for children and families in shelter. (10%)
- Supplements and assists the youth services staff as needed. (10%)
- Attends staff meetings, training sessions, and supervisory meetings as required. (10%)
- Conducts community presentations to community professionals. (2%)
- Meets with youth service staff on a regular basis for supervision and guidance. (10%)
- Facilitates groups for children, provides supportive counseling, and case management for children, as needed. (10%)
- Oversees maintaining records required for programmatic reporting, including compiling and preparing data reports for funders. (5%)
- Carries supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Includes interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling and coaching employees; plans, assigns and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems. Oversees and ensures that staff comply with ethical standards and quality of service. (23%)
- Participates in developing and implementing Children's Services program policies, procedures, forms, and guidelines with the CPO. (5%)
- Engages families to encourage them to participate in the programing and youth services. (10%)
- Ensures appropriate childcare licensing is maintained as required of employees; and funding source standards and reporting requirements are adhered to for the department.
