Job Description
Primary Purpose: The Director of Professional Engagement contributes to the work of the Office of Professional Engagement. The Director of Professional Engagement works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators, particularly those in student-centric offices, to implement the College of Law’s efforts in formation of professional identity among students and to promote a sense of belonging on campus. The Director of Professional Engagement must pay particular attention to creating an inclusive community that serves the needs of a diverse student population.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Provide recommendations and draft new policies, and amend existing policies, as needed.
  • Support university and college officials with federal compliance;
  • Provide programs on leadership development and professionalism;
  • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.
  • May be required to maintain on-call emergency response status in the event of emergency activities affecting the College of Law.
  • Manage and administer Office of Professional Engagement budget and process expenses;
  • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with sponsors and potential sponsors for professional identity development programming;
  • Provide and promote opportunities for students to develop cross-cultural competency and understand bias and racism;
  • Remain aware of emerging trends and issues in professional identity formation;
  • Assist in implementation of program for professional identity formation, which may include, among other things, teaching courses or individual class sessions, leading workshops, coordinating events, providing feedback on student reflections, etc.;
  • Work closely with Associate Dean for Assessment & Professional Engagement to contribute to development of robust program for professional identity formation;
  • Meet regularly with key constituencies regarding shared concerns;
  • Assist in planning and administration of new and upper-level student orientations.
  • Assist with strategic planning for the College of Law;
  • Collaborate with other student-facing departments to ensure consistency in functions and messaging;
  • Serve on assigned departmental committees and represent the Office of Professional Engagement on campus-wide committees;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Promote a sense of belonging among students through targeted programming, including overseeing a regular program of activities;
  • Plan and schedule events, including negotiating contracts with outside vendors;


Required Skills


Juris Doctor required; law practice or related employment experience required.
