In consultation with the General Manager, the Director of Operations manages, supervises, and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the complex including but not limited to maintenance, set-up/changeovers, custodial/housekeeping, landscaping/grounds keeping, equipment safety and capital projects. This employee also provides overall administrative planning, direction, and policies to operating managers and supervisors, assuring the highest quality service program to assure booking and rebooking of events. The Director of Operations ensures an effective and cost-efficient program by controlling departmental operating budget while providing highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager.


This role will pay a salary of $94,000 to $107,000.

Located just 2 miles east of downtown Dallas, Fair Park is the largets historical landmark in Texas and is one of the largest collections of 1930's art and architecture. The 277-acre campus is home to the State Fair of Texas, multiple museums, Cotton Bowl Stadium, Music Hall at Fair Park (Broadway shows, opera, ballet), an outdoor amphitheater and hundreds of events each year!


  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Develop and update comprehensive management reports and manuals (i.e. Operations Manual, Annual Preventative Maintenance Plan, etc)
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • Oversees the operation of event set-up and tear-down, i.e. facility readiness, stage risers, chairs, signs, banquet functions, etc
  • Participate in the development and administration of the facility’s operations budgets; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
  • Conduct a variety of organizational and operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate
  • Acts as liaison with City Services for numerous facility related functions (City Codes, Environmental, fire,elevators, warranties, etc)
  • Responsible for Environmental Compliance
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Minimum 8 yrs experience in supervising the work of others
  • Min of 5-7 years experience in facility Venue multi-operations management.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Capable of operating in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, facility stakeholders and facility users
  • All other duties as assigned by the Assistant General Manager & General Manager
  • Must have min of 8 yrs experience in physical Venue- Event management, supervisory skills and experience in work crew supervision in facility and landscaping, and housekeeping operations.
  • 5 or more years experience in Event production and theatre technology
  • Basic Knowledge of Fire Alarm / Fire Protection systems
  • Proven ability in communicating with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment
  • Working knowledge of equipment safety, facility maintenance and housekeeping
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • Must have some accredited college/university
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program, and material safety data sheets; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations
  • Oversees overall daily operation and maintenance of the facility and systems. This includes custodial, landscaping, sound, environmental workplace safety, scoreboard sytems, pest control, custodial services, etc
