Job Summary:


The Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic business partner to reach organizational goals through effective human resource strategies in accordance with all laws, regulations and internal standards. Responsible for assisting with decision making, employee relations, and implementation of systems which promotes safety and well-being of all employees. The Director of Human Resources is responsible for short- and long-term planning of the HR function. This means leading strategically and tactically in the areas of workforce planning, recruitment and staffing strategies, wage and salary administration, associate and labor relations, benefits, workforce training and development and local diversity initiatives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Support local leadership by providing human resources direction, advice, and counsel spanning multiple locations
  • Work closely with Corporate HR function
  • Develop, maintain and implement human resources policies, programs, and initiatives (using fact-based data) to drive strategy, influence employee consensus and execution, and educate the employee base
  • Advise on labor laws and regulations, and work with Legal department to ensure company’s compliance with all existing governmental and labor legal requirements
  • Coach and mentor local leadership and staff to ensure they are managing the business needs efficiently
  • Consults with internal managers on staffing issues, succession planning, workforce planning, etc.
  • Maintain company documentation (employee files, org charts, employee directory)
  • Mentor teams on HR best practices during hiring process and lead exit interviews
  • Provides employee counseling as necessary

  • Bachelor’s degree in business with a focus on Human Resources
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state labor laws
  • 7+ years of HR business partner experience with a focus on employee relations, performance management and policy governance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to build and navigate across business units and functions
  • Proven ability to exercise judgment and discretion in handling confidential matters
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
  • Demonstrated business acumen and time and priority management skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Strong influencing skills
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Actively listens to the needs and concerns of business leaders and functional partners and can develop strategic recommendations/solutions
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and diffuse employee-related issues, concerns, and situations
  • Extensive working knowledge of employee relations principles, practices, and procedures
