HDC San Diego exists to continually grow the game of hockey in San Diego. We are looking for an experienced, determined individual who can help develop and promote our facility to the hockey community. We are committed to building outstanding youth and adult hockey training programs for players of all ages and abilities, from amateur players to the highest elite levels.


JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Hockey Operations will oversee all day-to-day operations of the center including the creation and implementation of programs and camps. They will be responsible for the development and maintenance of hockey club relationships, as well as player outreach and retention.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Provide customer service resolutions as needed.
  • Be a strong and constant positive force in nurturing the professional culture of the company.
  • Monitor and adjust staff schedules for optimal effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with outside hockey groups and local ice rinks who can further enhance the mission of HDC San Diego.
  • Ability to fill in for the training staff for any program training activities with athletes.
  • Schedule, plan, organize and promote hockey development camps and clinics.
  • Responsible for purchasing and maintaining inventory of supplies, equipment, and apparel for the shop.
  • Meet with potential training center owners and operators to showcase technology and methodologies of our center and our partners.
  • Establish guidelines for conduct and apply corrective action when necessary.
  • Oversee retail sales transactions and account adjustments for players at a high level.
  • Identify and monitor KPIs of the business and programs for continual improvement of the programs and their effectiveness with athletes.
  • Evaluate programs and services and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Communicate with partners and vendors to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Ensure staff is working safely, efficiently, and are aware of proper safety guidelines.
  • Continually market and promote the center to hockey organizations and potential sponsors through various channels, including community events and activities.
  • Reach out and connect with clubs and athletes from other local sports that can benefit from custom diagnostics and training programs offered in the HDC.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and computer skills.
  • Coaching/team management background. High level player background preferred.
  • Experience creating, monitoring, and adapting budgets.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of operations experience in the hockey/sports industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a sports management/business major, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated integrity, leadership, and an extensive knowledge of hockey fundamentals and development tactics required.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and some holidays.
  • Meeting and class presentations may be required to groups, teams, and industry professionals.
  • Position will use standard office equipment that includes computers and software packages, telephones, and point of sale equipment.
  • Work responsibilities will be performed in a standard office environment, in a retail environment, in a gym, in the hockey skating/training area on synthetic ice, as well as occasionally on ice.
  • Operate maintenance and cleaning equipment including floor cleaners, skate sharpeners, vacuums, mops, and any other equipment associated with a recreational facility.
  • International travel required for training. Some occasional additional travel may be required. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away for one or more nights.
