Job Description

What We Are Looking For

The Athletic Medicine department at Baylor University is seeking a Director of Athletic Medicine-Clinical Care to support Baylor University's mission. Athletic training and rehabilitation services including concussion policy management and return to play processes for intercollegiate sports teams with additional staff support and development under the direction of a Team Physician; position will report to Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Medicine. A Christian faith is required.

Education

Master’s degree or higher level of education required.

Work Experience

8 years minimum post-BOC Certification experience in collegiate or professional athletics setting; 10 years preferred. Strong rehabilitation background and understanding of demands of Division 1 Collegiate Athletics.

Licenses, Certificates, Registrations

State Athletic Training License (Texas eligible), Certified Athletic Trainer (required)

PT/DPT/PhD/CSCS/SCS/OCS/SFMA/CES/PES/NASM (optional)

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do

Clinical Communication and Clinical Referral

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local health care providers including athletic trainers, physical therapists, physicians and Baylor University Campus research partners.
  • Assist the Associate AD of Athletic Medicine in directing and implementing new strategies or goals for the department.
  • Promote and develop collaboration amongst all members of the BU Health and Wellness Staff
  • In cooperation with assigned sport athletic trainer, coordinate and manage outpatient physical therapy services for student-athletes when indicated.
  • Communicate with sports performance staff knowledge of strength and conditioning programs including coordination of group and individualized injury prevention programming and return to sport protocols.

Clinical Management

  • Concussion management and tracking of cases.
  • Support practice and event coverage
  • Provide assistance to facilitate and/or coordinate rehabilitation for post-operative, post- medical procedure, non-operative long term injury recovery and complex injury cases for student-athletes with all sports in conjunction with sport athletic trainer.
  • Coordinate and support on campus physician clinics.

Clinical Education

  • Provide education to patients, coaches, support staff, administrators, and parents.
  • Assist with education and oversight of MAT students.
  • Assist with staff development and continuing education planning.
  • Develop annual in-service training program for Athletic Medicine Staff.
  • Have an innovative mindset to evaluate the latest procedures and technologies to improve clinical outcomes.

Administrative

  • Collaborate with various campus and community stakeholders on research initiatives.
  • Assist in the development, review, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures within Athletic Medicine in conjunction with Associate AD for Athletic Medicine.
  • Assist in development and achievement of annual goals for Athletic Medicine Unit.
  • Assistant with evaluation of and utilization of current EMR and how it can assist with mitigation of medical risk.
  • Review and development of existing and future rehabilitation protocols including the return to sport process.
  • Establish metrics for continuous performance improvement and improved patient outcomes.
  • Assist with oversite of some Athletic Medicine staff.
