Job Description
  • Monitors all Camps and submits weekly visitation logs.
  • Invites constructive feedback from peers and administrators.
  • Ensures University Interscholastic League (UIL) compliance for all students throughout the pyramid.
  • Skill in judgment and creativity in decision-making; considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking; climbing bleachers/risers.
  • Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
  • Reflects on personal growth areas; engages in continuous professional learning to gain knowledge/skills to refine professional judgment.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to various audiences.
  • Skill in public relations, communications, and interpersonal relations.
  • Responsible for regularly coaching staff meetings, including a preseason meeting and a postseason meeting with every head coach.
  • Meets with the Principal to provide updates and status reports concerning staff and programs on campus.
  • Develops schedules for use of campus Athletic facilities and solicits approval of the campus Principal.
  • Knowledge of current teaching and coaching methods/pedagogy.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard athletic equipment relevant to the associated sports.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education, as well as District policies and procedures as it relates to the athletics program.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; frequent irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Monitors and attends athletic events in assigned pyramid.
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university required;
    • Master’s degree from accredited college or university in a relevant field preferred.
  • Manages and is responsible for campus athletic operations including budget oversight and the purchase order process.
  • Develops campus coaching plans to improve practice and student outcomes.
  • Skill in program management, evaluation, program planning, program development, and implementation.
  • Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff, and makes recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
  • All Fort Worth ISD employees must maintain a commitment to the District’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Provides leadership to all coaches in the pyramid ensuring conformity with the goals, purpose, vision, and focus of the FWISD Athletic program.
  • Ensures UIL compliance for all coaches throughout the pyramid.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; frequent irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Directs and monitors the pyramid athletic programs/athletic periods for implementation of philosophies, schemes, strategies, techniques, skills, offenses, and defenses for vertical alignment with high school programs.
  • Skill in managing resources, including but not limited to budget and inventory.
  • Mentors and assesses coaching staff and gives constructive individual feedback and aligns professional development opportunities.
  • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with students, parents, staff, community, and stakeholders in a multi-ethnic educational environment.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence in interactions with others; is respectful of co-workers; communicates and acts as a team player; promotes teamwork; responds and acts appropriately in confrontational situations.
  • Certification/License:
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certification required;
    • National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA), or Texas Athletic Administrators Certification (TAAC) preferred, or ability to obtain within two years of the date of employment.
  • Observes performance of coaches regularly, records observations, and conducts athletic evaluation conferences; provides principal and Athletics leadership with feedback to assist with designated coaches’ appraisal system and program improvement in activities other than the sport(s) of which they are the head coach.
  • Environment: Works inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; frequent irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Aligns resources with the needs of the athletic programming, and effectively monitors the impact of these resources on athletic goals in support of the athletic department’s mission; assists the Principal with fiscal oversight of all campus athletic budgets.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification required;
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university required;
  • Knowledge of Texas Education Agency (TEA) and UIL regulations, and ability to document and follow emergency procedures as required by UIL.
  • Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ability to understand conceptual ideas and develop programming that serves the mission of the athletics program.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Exhibits high professionalism, standards of conduct and work ethic.
  • Maintains campus by campus analytics and meets with the Athletic Department to provide updates and status reports concerning staff and programs throughout the pyramid.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA), or Texas Athletic Administrators Certification (TAAC) preferred, or ability to obtain within two years of the date of employment.
  • Develops and implements the high school summer strength and conditioning schedule.
  • Experience: 6 years’ coaching required; experience at inner-city schools with diverse student populations preferred.
  • Ability to consider academic, social, and emotional needs of students in making decisions about athletic programming.
  • Demonstrates high quality customer service; builds rapport/relationship with the consumer.
  • Ability to differentiate leadership needs for experienced and new coaches.
  • Master’s degree from accredited college or university in a relevant field preferred.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work, including maintaining attention to details and quality, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
