Job Description

Educator’s Ally partners with independent day and boarding schools throughout the U.S. in support of their faculty, staff and administrator hiring. Educator’s Ally is seeking full-time Athletic Director who is responsible for overseeing and promoting the overall success of K-12 athletic and sports programs in the New England area.


Job Summary

Additionally, the Athletic Director is responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate an approachable and open spirit among all constituents.
  • Manage athletics-related logistics including schedules, contest officials, and transportation; ensure compliance with regulating bodies.
  • Build school spirit & steward relationships and communicate effectively between athletics and other school constituencies.
  • Coordinate with Advancement regarding fundraising / capital campaign initiatives.
  • All other duties assigned by the Head of School and other lead administrators as needed.
  • Confer with coaches during the season and review self-evaluations of the coach’s performance at the conclusion of each season, stressing strengths, areas where growth is evident, and recommending alternatives to improve areas of deficiency.
  • Responsible for the hiring and placement, as well as the development, ongoing mentorship and evaluation of the athletic department staff and seasonal coaches.
  • Oversee the college recruiting process for prospective student-athletes.
  • Market the athletic program internally and externally to raise the profile of the program.
  • Oversee proper budgeting and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Hands on experience with organizing athletic practices and events, inclusive of transportation.
  • A track record of developing mission specific athletic programs, programs capable of taking student-athletes through middle and upper division experiences and beyond.
  • High-energy personality, outgoing, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to the importance of DEI as it pertains to the daily life of physical education, health and athletics.
  • Natural leader with competitive drive, able to initiate and conduct difficult conversations with individuals at all levels.
  • Comfortable with public speaking.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field required, master’s in education with a major or concentration in Physical Education or Health preferred.
  • Teaching, coaching and administrative experience in an independent day or public school required.
  • Minimum of five (5-7) years successful experience in a similar role, preferably at an independent PK-12 school setting.
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
