Director, M&A


Albemarle Corporation is looking for an experienced M&A leader to become a key member of the M&A team, responsible for driving M&A strategy and supporting corporate initiatives across our Global Business Units. Based in Charlotte, NC, this position will work closely with the M&A team and senior leaders of Albemarle. Must be a proven leader who can lead acquisitions, divestitures, strategic alliances, joint ventures and other strategic initiatives from start to closing, including opportunity assessment, due diligence, presentations to leadership, relationship management, negotiations and ultimately driving to clarity and results. Must be able to drive the pace in the process, provide a steady and objective demeanor, and direct teamwork and collaboration across functions while not having direct line of reporting to the functional team members.


Responsibilities


  • Maintain harmonious working relationships within the company, as well as outside the company.
  • Participate, and lead when necessary, key meetings (internal to Albemarle and also externally)
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute on deals – opportunity identification, due diligence, negotiation, closing, and divestitures.
  • Direct and perform analysis on opportunities.
  • Live daily the Albemarle values of Care, Curiosity, Collaboration, Humility, Accountability and Integrity.
  • Scenario planning and valuation analysis.
  • Present and discuss opportunities objectively, based on data.
  • Maintain relationships with 3rd party services and investment advisors.
  • Manage the deal pipeline and provide guidance for the business teams on the M&A process.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the M&A process and strategic project management.
  • Lead key strategic projects, from idea to completion.
  • Successfully manage multiple projects / deals in parallel.


Required


  • Travel may be required up to 25% of the time, including international travel
  • A bachelor’s degree in business management or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
  • Experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development, or at least strong exposure in the past to this environment preferred.
  • Able to manage the challenges of M&A and remain objective on the right decisions.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Flexibility in schedule due to global time differences
  • At least twelve successful years of experience in a leadership role, leading people and strategic initiatives.
  • Strong work ethic, independence and self-starter.
  • Positive attitude, committed to excellence and teamwork.
  • Experience with industrial / manufacturing companies preferred.
  • Well-spoken and professional, strong communicator.
  • M&A process leadership experience - due diligence, financial assessment, valuations, negotiations, overall process.
  • Sound business judgement.
  • Solid financial skill-set and understanding.
  • Ability to oversee a diverse group of subject matter experts with the goal of driving a project to results, including employees in various departments, such as finance, business, operations, tax, legal, compliance, human resources, environmental, communications, investor relations, and more.
