Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Director of DEI will play a critical and operational role in building and implementing company-wide DEI strategies, initiatives, trainings, resource groups and programs to engage staff at all levels in DEI-focused efforts across the organization.
The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about DEI and associate engagement, has strong program management and the ability to collaborate with varied team members, functions and third parties as needed.
This position will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer and work closely with Marcum’s operational functions, including by not limited to, HR, L&OD and Marketing.
Key Priorities
  • Keep abreast of Marcum’s demographic data and propose programs and practices based on the data.
  • Support steps that, over time, will lead to meaningful change across the firm e.g. improved staff morale, reduced turnover, higher productivity, more people of color in leadership roles etc.
  • Keep abreast of the external environment and research related to demographic trends and how those trends impact Marcum’s business in the future.
  • Work collaboratively with Chief Human Resource Officer and partners across the firm, in developing data-driven goals and strategies related to diversity, equity and inclusion across the firm.
  • Shape and implement DEI practices related to DEI education, recruitment, talent development, and retention.
  • Lead efforts to support Marcum’s goal of being a diverse firm where associates from underrepresented backgrounds feel a strong sense of belonging and see paths to leadership.
  • Keep current of AICPA’s DEI priorities, ensuring that Marcum is aligned with industry DEI priorities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Education
  • Oversee, manage, and where appropriate implement, all DEI training activities including, but not limited to, level training, new hire orientation, Courageous Conversations, heritage month celebrations etc.
  • Oversee and where appropriate, implement training for specific practices.
  • Work collaboratively with the L&OD to identify and assess future DEI training needs.
Recruitment – talent pipeline
  • Initiate and nurture ties with diverse recruitment partners/educational institutions (e.g. ALPFA, NABA, university partners etc.)
  • Review current recruitment practices and where appropriate propose, develop, and deploy initiatives that broaden the firm’s outreach to diverse, qualified candidates – both for campus and experienced hires.
  • Work closely with, and be a resource for, Marcum’s recruiters on all issues related to inclusive hiring practices.
  • Work with Marcum’s marketing team to elevate Marcum’s DEI efforts – both internally and externally.
Retention
  • Oversee Marcum’s Associate Resource Groups and provide opportunities for communication and collaboration between groups; leverage ARGs to regularly assess employee morale; provide guidance to ARG chairs when necessary; build a community across ARGs to ensure intersectional programming and sharing of lessons learned.
  • Oversee company-wide DEI training programs and initiatives and work collaboratively with Marcum HR and L&OD to implement activities - e.g. mentoring program, scholarship programs.
Social Responsibility
  • Manage Marcum’s Diversity Scholarship Fund – manage relationships with partnering schools and seek opportunities to leverage the relationship. Connect partnering schools with members of Marcum HR’s team.
  • Work closely with ARGs to develop programs that serve to give back to the community – e.g. career panels for high schoolers etc.
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years in a professional setting working in a DEI capacity.
