Overview
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Corporate Facilities Management & Operations, this role Leads the development and operation of Gilead’s Corporate Laboratory Services function in support of Research, Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing organizations. This position will be located at Gilead’s HQ Site in Foster City, US and will be responsible for ownership & development of the Corporate Engineering & Facilities Laboratory Services Program. This role includes responsibility for leadership & management of both internal staff and a range of vendor partner relationships.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Customers, Site Service Organizations, and all teams within our facilities organization to coordinate activities which could impact lab operations and to develop best in class cross-functional services.
  • Effectively and accurately direct the Lab Services budgets, developing key relationships with the business and Finance functions to ensure accurate forecasting and reporting of services costs.
  • Ensure regular technical reviews of Lab Services and programs and/or equipment are undertaken routinely.
  • Drive effective communication/engagement between and across Business Stakeholders, Lab leads, Corporate Engineering & Facilities, Procurement, Finance, EH&S, Legal Functions, and external partners to deliver best-in-class services and experiences.
  • Provide leadership of FC Laboratory Services program and Corporate Laboratory Asset Management Program.
  • Partner with GMP Audit Readiness function to ensure “always ready” status for Lab Services functions.
  • Collaboratively engage with Procurement partners to deliver high-quality services, invest, and manage.
  • In partnership with our Laboratory Community, develop best in class service levels for all services within this program.
  • Partner with the broader Corporate Operations (Corp. Ops) team to validate the capital project pipeline, ensuring resources are appropriately allocated and aligned with Master Plans.
  • Represent business function in GMP external and internal audits.
  • Ensure team excels in collaborating with peers within business to promote learning, alignment, regulatory (GxP) compliance and continuous improvement across functions.
  • Develop an annual Lab Services plan for the implementation of objectives into a rolling 3-year business and financial forecast.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Keen customer service orientation and ability to shape employee experience for delight and consistency across multiple functions & sites.
  • Able to effectively influence successful outcomes across Business Stakeholders, Lab leads, Corporate Engineering & Facilities, Procurement, Finance, EH&S, Legal Functions, and external partners.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience and BS/BA, 10+ with MS/MA or MBA
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including with senior executives and Laboratory owners.
  • Deep experience managing budgets and outsourced vendors.
  • Ability to create an inclusive environment and lead empowered teams who operate with high standards of alignment, trust, accountability, expertise, transparency, and collaboration.
  • Deep experience and understanding of the application of Facilities Management Operations and Lab Operations principles (where applicable), concepts, practices, and standards.
  • Must be able to work on highly complex problems in a variety of situations, analysing root causes, applying considerable and rational judgement, and developing routine, specific and systemic recommendations.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing Lab based services in both GMP and Research environments.
  • Exceptional people management skills to build a strong team and a culture of collaboration, community learning and knowledge-sharing.
  • Fluency with EH&S compliance and crisis management practices
  • High degree of organizational awareness and knowledge of change management with the ability to help teams anticipate, plan, and adapt to an evolving environment.
  • Recognized subject matter expert in matters concerning operation, support and maintenance of Lab Equipment, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, Maintenance systems and processes in laboratory setting.

The salary range for this position is: $199,835.00 - $258,610.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
