How you will contribute to LifeNet Health’s success:
The Director serves as administrative and technical director of both Quality Control Laboratory and Northwest Laboratory, ensuring that all testing is compliant, leading to safe, transplantable tissues and organs, and that operations are effective and efficient. He/she establishes and maintains an active interface with LifeNet Health’s R&D Division, ensuring successful transfer of new technology into production. The Director serves as a technical consultant in laboratory testing for LifeNet Health, its clients, partners, and regulatory and accrediting agencies. The Director is responsible for ensuring operational effectiveness of the laboratory information systems (Harvest LIS and Novatek). The Director also manages the Quality Control Lab as a revenue producing entity offering contracted laboratory services.

What you’ll do:
  • Develops and directs effective training/educational programs, ensuring that laboratory personnel are qualified and competent. Performs administrative functions for laboratory personnel, including but not limited to coordination of work assignments, coaching, counseling, and performance review.
  • Ensures operational effectiveness of the laboratory information systems (Harvest LIS and Novatek)
  • Designs testing protocols for new technology in concert with LifeNet Health’s R&D Division. Ensures compliant transfer of relevant testing to LifeNet Health laboratories.
  • Facilitates development and maintenance of an effective environmental surveillance program for LifeNet Health’s controlled processing facilities.
  • Develops department operational and capital budgets; monitors department financial performance, investigates budget variances and adjusts operations where possible to meet approved budget expenditures and ensure department efficiency.
  • Develops a department strategic plan and objectives consistent with corporate strategic goals; routinely assesses progress. Evaluates requests for new services; developing and expanding services in concert with corporate strategies and initiatives. Manages contract laboratory testing.
  • Ensures operational effectiveness and compliance with applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies; takes effective action to correct deficiencies (including but not limited to CLIA, FDA, state agencies, AATB, AOPO, ISO)
  • Serves as a technical consultant for laboratory-related quality assurance, quality control, validation and regulatory concerns for LifeNet Health and its clients and partners.

What you’ll bring (Minimum Requirements):
  • TWO (2) years environmental monitoring program fundamentals and development experience
  • FIVE (5) years CLIA regulated laboratory management experience.
  • Bachelor of Science – Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical/Physical/Biological Science
  • Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS – or achieve certification with 2 years of employment and maintain throughout employment)
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologies (ASCP) or equivalent
  • TEN (10) years related laboratory testing environment experience.
  • SEVEN (7) years corporate leadership; demonstrated management skills experience.

These would be nice too (Knowledge Skills and Abilities):
  • Decision Making: Ability to follow vaguely defined procedures; use complex reasoning to make decisions; decisions may have corporate level effect.
  • Additional Regulatory & Compliance: Knowledge of complex, diverse regulation/accreditation policies governing tissues, organs, medical devices (FDA, AATB, ISO)
  • Laboratory Information Systems (LIS): Knowledge of LIS database design, configuration, validation
  • CLIA Regulation: Expert knowledge in relevant CLIA testing specialties, test methods, laboratory quality systems, validation, basic statistical techniques.
  • Interpersonal: Negotiation/conflict management, effective teamwork, effective communication at different organizational levels.
  • Personnel Management: Knowledge of scheduling, staffing, hiring, performance
  • Business Management: Knowledge of accounting, budget preparation, materials management, planning
  • Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate conclusions and recommended path; able to present complex information to peers and non-technical leadership; able to describe and convince decision makers on recommended path; able to deliver a formal presentation management, training & competency.
