About The Role

We're looking for an experienced communications professional who understands the importance of traditional and digital communications in educating families, school communities, district residents, and other important audiences about public charter schools in Washington, DC. If you're passionate about creatively managing and implementing communications strategies and campaigns, then you're the perfect candidate.

Reporting directly to the Chief External Affairs Officer, this candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, is a strong communicator, and a solid manager of people, projects, and ideas. This professional will spend their days leading a high-performing two-person team while collaborating with colleagues throughout the agency to expand awareness and understanding of public charter schools and the DC Public Charter School Board.

Every day is different. One day you may be pitching a story idea to reporters, and the next, you're designing a communications campaign for a new initiative. This position will have a broad range of responsibilities, some of which include:

• Managing and writing internal and external communications materials (e.g. briefings, speeches) and ensuring that all content meets message consistency and accuracy;
• Championing our vision, mission and values as a mid-level leader in the organization
• Cultivating cooperation, cross-training and skills development among Communications Team; and
• Building and fostering long-term working relationships with media and with the communications colleagues in other government agencies.
• Managing the Communications Team - including media relations activities, social media and website, scripts, special events, and speaking engagements;

Competencies And Qualifications

You are a confident communicator, ideally with a minimum of six years of experience in communications/public relations (and multiple years managing staff). You have strong writing, editing, and presentation skills and a wide degree of creativity. You have a professional approach to management -- and are ready and willing to engage in productive and honest work on race, diversity, equity, and inclusion. You have the proven ability to multitask, set priorities, develop a plan with metrics and see it through - and do what it takes to meet deadlines (even if that requires occasional evening and weekend hours). You can deal with ambiguity and understand the importance of being flexible and adaptable. You thrive in a collaborative environment while taking the initiative and making things happen. And you have a good sense of humor.

Compensation

Salary is competitive and commensurate with prior experience in a similar role. DC PCSB offers a comprehensive benefits plan which can be viewed by accessing the following linkhttps://dcpcsb.egnyte.com/dl/FDahdxug6y/. The salary band for this position is $105,000 - $115,000.
