Job Description

Strategic Communications Consultant

Hybrid | Washington D.C or Nebraska | 80% Onsite

Top Secret Clearance Required - SCI Eligible

Responsibilities

Our client is seeking a candidate to support their federal client’s mission in an intelligence domain. The successful candidate will provide strategic communications support related to the Intelligence & Analysis (I&A) Chief Information Office (CIO) mission within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to include:

  • Draft talking points, memos, announcements, newsletters, and annual reports
  • Assimilate inputs from key stakeholders and translate complex ideas and issues into clear and compelling messages
  • Understand the key stakeholders with whom we work and their potential to engage with others within DHS or other government organizations
  • Work with government clients to develop strategic communications plans that engage and inform the workforce and key stakeholders
  • Prepare executive level-briefing materials (e.g., memos, papers, presentations etc.) for the I&A CIO to brief other senior leadership (e.g., DHS Secretary, Undersecretaries, Directors, etc.)
  • Promote the identification and use of third-party voices to support client communications and mission goals


Requirements

  • Ability to make connections in highly matrixed environment, with eye on collaboration and integration, across all levels of the organization
  • Experience creating and utilizing an issue tracking software such as JIRA and SharePoint
  • 2+ years of experience with visual analytics best practices, development processes, and knowledge of typical BI & analytics tools and technologies (Power BI, Qlik Sense, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience in optimizing dashboards with focus on usability, performance, flexibility, and standardization
  • Ability to think and communicate clearly - formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues and create a concise and well-written narrative to express it
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment
  • Exceptional writing, editing and project management skills
  • Possess a working knowledge of, and experience in strategic communications.
  • High level of comfort with ambiguity and fluid priorities; ability to manage multiple and complex priorities effectively and efficiently
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and presentation skills, including ability to interact with and brief senior leaders
  • Ability to interact and communicate across a variety of stakeholder groups (from technical subject matter experts to senior executives), with ability to present complex information in an understandable format and tailored to specific audiences
  • Strong listening and persuasive communication skills; able to gain consensus through influence and pivot when warranted
  • Proven success in developing and executing communications strategies and plans for commercial or government clients with many stakeholders
  • 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelors degree or 6+ years of relevant experience with a Masters degree
  • Capable of working well under pressure and managing multiple high-profile assignments in an intense, fast-paced environment
  • Experience with writing, reviewing, and updating SOPs, Learning Guides and Tutorials, and Process Maps


Preferred Requirements

  • Possess a working knowledge of, and experience in national security, the Intelligence Community, information technology, and intelligence & analysis.


Education Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), OR related four-year STEM degree is required at a minimum.


Clearance Requirements

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; an active Top Secret clearance is required with the willingness to get an SCI.
