JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Work with all disciplines (mechanical, piping, structural, instrumentation, and electrical) to develop efficient designs
  • Position requires flexibility with personal schedule to meet deadlines and support occasional business travel.
  • Assist in meetings necessary to support the proposals and projects objectives
  • This position is intended as a mid-level designer position for candidates with a minimum of 10 years oil & gas industry experience.
  • Travel to fabrication yard as needed to support project requirements.
  • Designer will be responsible for the 3D modeling and drawings creation and delivery for balance of plant design of oil & gas projects utilizing gas turbine compressor sets & generators. Typical projects include gas compressor stations, power generation and co-generation facilities, offshore Single Lift Modules for both compression and power generation, and Modular Building Solutions. “Modular Building Solutions” refers to Solar’s Configurable Modular Prefabricated Building (CMPB). The CMPB is a structural block-based building that houses Solar Turbomachinery and utility systems.
  • Primary role is to fulfill the design needs for prefabricated modular products for oil & gas facilities engineering in the support of sales and execution for Solar Turbines products.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Able to create 3D models and produce complex design arrangement plans, layouts, sections, details and specific orientation drawings.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in the English language.
  • Understanding of engineering principles, design, manufacturing processes, and shop capabilities
  • Modify and Update project specific Drawing Status Reports and original man-hour estimates under lead designer supervision.
  • Familiarity with facilities and equipment drawings.
  • Proficient level in the use of 3D Design software.
  • Mark-up vendor drawings.
  • Able to communicate with Fabrication yard on specific issues.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of AutoCad software configurations, project procedures and Computerized 3D modeling/data management.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment (turbines, compressors, generators, etc.) is a plus
  • Sense of urgency and good organizational skills are required to work with multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • 10-15 years of experience in design teams executing projects.
  • Bachelor of Science College Degree desirable
KEY KNOWLEDGE:
Create 3D models of projects of low to mid complexity such as process skids and modules and produce complex design arrangement plans, layouts, sections, details and specific orientation drawings (deliverables). Issue the mentioned deliverables on time as per the established schedule.
PROBLEM COMPLEXITY:
Required to assist in the development of design solutions by use of personal judgment, personal experience and input from senior designer. Must exhibit creativity and flexibility and good interpersonal skills in assisting in the design to meet complex customer standards.
WORK DIRECTION AND LATITUDE:
Works under general guidance and specific direction. Under guidance of the lead designer and discipline engineer determines and develops solutions. Satisfactory completion of defined objectives. Will provide training as needed for less experienced. Keeps lead designer appraised of possible scope and schedule impacts.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Support the field during fabrication and installation of designed systems. Fabrication is normally at Solar’s fabrication facility (TurboFab) in Channelview, TX.
  • Keep track of the need dates assigned to the modeling and drawings creation tasks
  • Process 3D models and drawings through the Document Control system
  • Assist on Setup of the project design folders in the Design group directory and Design Services Project Interface Microsoft Teams folders
  • Support the review of models and drawings created by Design Services companies.
  • Create 3D models of projects of low to mid complexity such as process skids and modules and produce complex design arrangement plans, layouts, sections, details and specific orientation drawings (deliverables).
  • Support lead and senior designers on the miscellaneous design and administrative tasks such as drawings transmittals, drawings creation, incorporation of drawings, 2D design and drafting.
  • Collaborate on the Preparation of the project design deliverables schedules
  • Recommend design changes affecting areas of direct responsibility
LIAISON:
Frequent contact with senior designer, design engineers and project engineers on assigned projects. Reports to Design Coordinator.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
  • Ability to read/write in technical Spanish is a plus.
