As a Designer II, you will:
  • Perform a variety of assignments requiring skills in conventional aspects of architectural and/or interior and product design.
  • Collaborate with Architects, Healthcare Facility Planners, and Interior Designers to support the design development of projects.
  • Independently perform a variety of assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of architectural designs.
  • Be responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client's needs.
  • Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews work of consulting designers, architects, and engineers and provides guidance on developing design concepts ensuring integration of project details into overall design.
  • Develops conceptual and schematic design plans, massing, and renderings for projects, documenting the design stages and detailed design intent, aids in the preparation of project presentations through hand drawing, physical model-making and computer aided drawing/design techniques.
  • Ensures high quality, innovative and functional design to meet the program efficiently and aesthetically in collaboration with the Architects, Healthcare Facility Planners, and Interior Designers.
  • Researches and selects fixtures and finishes to use for projects; provide detail for interior design projects.
  • Ability to think, create and document in three dimensions using visual awareness and attention to detail with a strong knowledge in design related to healthcare, research, education, hospitality, and infrastructure architecture.
  • Develops and prepares Cleveland Clinic (CC) design studies, space and design guidelines, post occupancy evaluations, and analytics to advance Cleveland Clinic Design Studio.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Develops Cleveland Clinic design studies, space and design guidelines, post occupancy evaluations, and other means and/or metrics to advance Cleveland Clinic planning and design capability.
  • Assists in assessing facility and space requests by working with support departments to determine space, functional needs, equipment, and utility requirements in preparing design solutions for development. Areas of focus, include space planning and design development for clinical, administrative, research and support areas.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Interior Design, Architecture, or Healthcare Facilities Planning and Design.
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Facilities Planning and Design preferred and may offset 2 years of professional experience.

Complexity of Work:

  • Knowledge of architectural design to develop conceptual design solutions based off programming and planning concepts.
  • Ability to exhibit knowledge of building design, systems, and construction.
  • Ability to develop programming documents based on project requirements.
  • Knowledge of furnishings, finishes and equipment.
  • Knowledge of design principles, application of color, materials, and aesthetic form to develop conceptual design solutions based off programming and planning concepts.
  • Ability to conceptualize space, understand operations and workflow.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, self-motivated and ability to adapt quickly to project needs.

Work Experience:

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit skills, Enscape, InDesign, Adobe Creative Suites and Microsoft Products (PPT, Excel, Word).
  • Advanced sketching, rendering, and interior architecture detailing skills.
  • Experience within healthcare environment required.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and FGI Guidelines.
  • Experience in other professions (finance, technology, graphic design) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal and corrected vision, extensive sitting, and frequent walking.
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time to perform site inspections of construction and renovation projects.
  • The position requires a passport and/or the ability to get a passport within a reasonable time frame.
  • The position requires a valid driver's license and automobile insurance and the ability to drive and/or fly to all Cleveland Clinic facilities including internationally.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • The position requires the ability to perform occasional lifting of 5 to 15 pounds.
