Design Operations Manager Jobs

Hinge is hiring a Design Operations Manager on the Product Design team. This role joins design leadership to manage the work of design work streams, assessing capacity, establishing timelines, coordinating team ceremonies with cross-functional partners and more. You lead the day-to-day operations of your projects with autonomy, versatility and agility. You know how to make the complex simple. Design at Hinge is part of the Product team; you will be the first Design Ops member of this team and will join a close-knit group of designers and UX writers while working closely with Research, Product Managers, Data Science, Business Intelligence, Brand, Community, and Engineering to craft innovative experiences combined with best-in-class practices in this space. As a key member of this team, you’ll report into the VP of Design.

Responsibilities

Managing concurrent projects across the whole product design teamHolding the design team and partners accountable to project timelines and deliverables

Holding designers accountable for design quality and consistencyUsing data and consumer insights to challenge design decisions

Building trust with cross-functional partners and fostering highly- collaborative design processes

Bringing best-in-class operations practices, while working within existing processes and making recommendations for improvements that can make a huge difference

Representing design while actively participating in product team meetings

Collaborating across teams and seeking to understand the needs of product, engineering, program and brand partners

Being the connector between Product Design and Marketing in go-to-market efforts

Facilitating processes and managing deliverables in cross-cutting initiatives such as Design System and other foundational practices

Creating and managing contracts of freelancers and vendors

Managing and forecasting design team budgetsDelivering on timely communications to ensure teams are informed and accountable

Setting boundaries that protect the team – balancing workloads with time for rest and recovery

About You

5+ years of relevant experience leading design teams through the design process at a digital product company, digital agency or tech start-up

A bachelor’s degree or any combination of education, training and experience in design operations, project management, organizational communications or a related field

Deep knowledge of design principles and mobile software development methodologies

A strong understanding of product design and end-to-end execution process

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment

Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team

Can read and react to a room – presenting their POV in a clear, methodical manner

Know when and how to push back in order to protect the team’s bandwidth while navigating relationships with cross-functional partners

Ability to identify the nuances of a request and bring clarity to unspoken problems so the team can solve themAbility to quickly identify what’s working and what’s not – adjusting your approach accordingly

A fascination with innovation and technology and a solid understanding of digital tools and trends

Ability to accurately estimate, prioritize and manage the team's time – guiding and influencing them as they meet milestones

Deep experience in the agile methodology of project management and the ability to run a sprint

Deep experience with the latest project management tools like Notion as well as collaboration tools like Dropbox, Google Suite, Figma, Shortcut

$159,500 - $191,500 a year

Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
