This announcement is for a full-time project Epidemiologist 2 position.
Project is currently funded through July 31, 2024

Make a difference
The Data Assets Analyst (EPI2) will provide analytical support to the Data Democratization Unit, within the Office of Health & Science. The Office of Health & Science is a part of the Center for Data Science.

The Data Democratization unit works closely with partners across Washington State on projects that will enable more people outside the agency to access, understand and use DOH data more easily. The unit focuses on new projects where access to data can improve community-level decision making and program design while promoting transparency, equity, and trust.

As the Data Assets Analyst, you will:

  • Conduct regular strategic assessments of data assets and data tools available internally and online to help the unit build a comprehensive understanding of the current data environment.
  • Build relationships with external data users and working with them to gather feedback, assess the utility and design of existing platforms (Open Data, websites, etc.) to inform improvements.
  • Gather, analyzing and visualizing data and present results in a compelling way.
  • As necessary, this position will support public health emergency preparedness and response activities within the Agency.

This work supports DOH’s Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Required Qualifications
Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities.

  • A Master's degree in epidemiology, or a Master's degree in public health or a closely allied field including 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent (500 level or above) in epidemiology and 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent in biostatistics.

AND

  • One (1) or more years of experience working in a public health agency or a similar setting.

Desired Qualifications
(A plus if you have any of the following):

  • Strong data analysis and statistical software skills.
  • Experience working with open data platforms and projects.
  • Experience working with local health jurisdictions or community-based organizations that use or want to use data more to inform their programs.
  • A strong interest in civic service design.
