Job Description


The Data Analyst is responsible for data preparation, decision support, dashboarding, and results presentation utilizing accepted statistical standards, methodologies and knowledge gained through on the job training. This role works closely with management leaders and key business partners to identify opportunities, set objectives, and develop and execute appropriate pricing and product strategies of moderate complexity that impact the National General Insurance bottom line.


  • Note: Preference given to candidates with solid SQL programming skills and dashboard building using Power BI or Tableau.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Specialty Vehicle team to identify, develop, and implement analytics solutions to satisfy key business information needs
  • Assist in rate revisions by building re-raters to calculate impact of segmentation changes
  • Exhibit extraordinary passion to solve problems
  • Use statistical techniques to cut through the noise and identify the root causes of effects observed in data
  • Able to translate data into actionable insights
  • Work with business intelligence and data warehouse teams to ensure data quality
  • Support business decisions through ad hoc analysis
  • Design and maintain dashboards/reports to monitor important metrics and rating components for periodic review


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience with SQL, preferably SQL Server
  • High degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
  • Experience with Power BI or Tableau
  • 2-3+ years of applied or educational experience in analytics
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable and profitable opportunities
  • Ability to adapt to new situations and learn quickly
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), particularly with data manipulation, pivot tables, Power Query and VBA
  • Solid mathematical or statistics background


Desired Skills:


  • Experience with scripting languages like Python and R
  • Bachelor Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience within insurance industry


#Remote

The base range offered for the role is: $60,000 - $80,000 and may vary based on internal equity, and job-related skills, knowledge and experience; among other factors.
