Creyon Bio - Who We Are:
We are a venture-backed nascent biotech-pharma company with a razor focus on solving one of the biggest problems in the industry—drugs cost too much and take too long to develop. We are transforming discovery and development of new medicines into engineering problems, shunning the costly and inefficient prevailing paradigm of trial-and-error screening. We want to solve rare- and common diseases with gene-modulatory medicines using precise control over gene-regulatory states, typically targeting both coding and non-coding RNAs directly. The class of gene-modulatory medicines we work on are Oligonucleotide-based medicines (OBMs), which encompass antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), siRNAs, ADAR guides, aptamers etc. We envision engineering new personalized medicines immediately following actionable genetic diagnosis. Our mission is to make gene-centric medicines affordable and rapidly available to patients globally.
We are highly multi- and cross-disciplinary scientists and industry veterans. We have recruited a remarkable team of scientific advisors and early partners. We, and our investors, are committed to building a company that will disrupt the pharmaceutical industry. We value intense scientific and engineering innovation as the driver of such a change. We have a very employee-friendly vacation policy, flexible schedule, and highly competitive compensation, health-care benefits, and employee stock plans.
Position Overview - Who You Are:
You are an intrepid Data Analyst passionate about distilling information from biological datasets. You have strong skills in statistics & statistical learning, data visualization & building data analysis dashboards / reports.
You are a full-stack data analyst with strong quantitative / computational & data science skills. You enjoy close-knit teamwork and a highly interdisciplinary intellectual environment, working amongst scientists both in computational and experimental domains. You are fast at learning new tools in data analysis, data visualization, and statistical packages. You are not afraid of looking under-the-hood in both external and internal codebase. You understand the biology in addition to being good at implementing algorithms efficiently.
Position Requirements:
- MSc. in bioinformatics, computational / quantitative biology, applied mathematics or related quantitative field.
- Strong knowledge of the Jupyter ecosystem, experience in data dashboards (Voila, Dash, Panel, Streamlit etc.) and various notebook tools (like Papermill, Cokkiecutter, Jupyterhub, Colab, Binder etc.).
- Undergraduate degree in biological science, chemistry or related science field of study required.
- Unfazed by self-teaching and mastering unfamiliar topics.
- Excellent quantitative & programming skills—Python is a must have. SQL / Rust / C++ / Javascript are also nice to have.
- Strong foundation and skills in statistical analysis & machine learning algorithms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of MLOps.
- Understanding in sequencing technologies (Illumina, PacBio, Oxford Nanopore…).
- Understanding of AngularJS & Flask.
- Good understanding of Linux, make, snakemake, git, etc..
- Fluent and comfortable working across local and cloud environments and tools (AWS, GCP, kubernetes, docker).
- Exposure is distributed computing (Spark, Dask etc.) are a plus.
As an early hire you will have a huge opportunity to help shape our efforts in rational design/ engineering of OBMs in our engineer-test cycles. With the goal of improving OBM pharmacology, you will help scale our efforts in data analysis infrastructure & repeatable data visualization of our biological assays and integrating multimodal external (Transcriptomics, -seq, functional data sources like ENCODE, GTEx, Cell atlas etc.) and internal data (NGS assays, nascent pre-mRNA dynamics, OBM activity, transcriptomics etc.).
Working from the ground up provides immense potential for professional growth, while being intellectually rewarded in establishing new tools, processes and principles in novel development of nucleic acid therapies. We strongly encourage publications and scientific community leadership. Your innovations will be broadly applicable and transformative across the nucleic acid medicine space!
