Responsible for providing written translation and verbal interpretation from Spanish into English and vice versa in a court of record in order to ensure that the message is being accurately delivered and understood between citizens and court employees. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

• Three years of experience in translation and interpretation.
• Membership in an interpreting/translation professional association is highly desirable.
• Translates documents and related material used in the District and County Courts at Law.
• Strong computer and organizational skills.
• Follows changes to State and Federal Laws that regulate interpreting and translating services and communicating these changes to all courts.
• Candidates must be a Master Licensed Court Interpreter by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC) pursuant to Chapter 157 Subchapter C of the Texas Government Code.
• Strong verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
• Experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic levels is desirable.
• Provides information to non-English speaking customers or visitors by telephone and in person.
• High School Diploma/GED or higher degree.
• Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
• Provides sight translation, consecutive, and simultaneous interpretation in all court assignments, including but not limited to hearings and trials.
• The Spanish Courts Interpreter provides interpreting and translation services for Spanish speaking defendants, parties, witnesses, and family members who are limited English proficient (LEP).
• Extensive knowledge of legal, highly technical, and colloquial vocabulary in English and Spanish.

SALARY RANGE $63,232.00 - $80,000.00 yearly based on qualifications
