Description of Work


  • Pass Psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age and a citizen of the United States.
  • Military experience (no dishonorable discharge, one year of full-time military serviceis equal to one year of experience)
  • Effectively communicate with offenders, staff, and members of the general public. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Correctional Officer II:High School Diploma/GED from an accredited school and one-year experience as Correctional Officer; or equivalent combination of education and experience. EQUIVALENT COMBINATIONS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: An equivalent combination of the education and experience listed below may be considered to meet the minimum education and experience requirements (above) for the Correctional Officer positions.

  • Touring assigned areas which will require periodically climbing stairs and standing for long periods of time.
  • Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. If a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, they must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
