Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Corporate Compliance Officer is responsible for overseeing the corporate compliance program, functioning as an independent and objective body that reviews, promotes and evaluates compliance issues and concerns. The Corporate Compliance Officer acts as staff to the CEO and the company Board of Directors by monitoring and reporting results of the compliance efforts of the company to ensure consistently high levels of compliance with all laws and regulations. The Corporate Compliance Officer will review workflows, develop and/or review company policies and respond to policy violations accordingly.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Leads Compliance Committee meetings
  • Responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and standards of conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.
  • Works with the human resource department and others as appropriate to develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees and ongoing training for all employees and managers.
  • Consults with corporate counsel as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
  • Establishes and provides direction and management of the compliance hotline.
  • Develops and oversees a system for uniform handling of such violations.
  • Develops, initiates, maintains and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develops and implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Develops and periodically reviews and updates Code of Conduct and Business Ethics to ensure continuing currency and relevance in providing guidance to management and employees.
  • Ensures proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate or required.
  • Monitors the performance of the compliance program and related activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
  • Performs other appropriate functions as requested within scope of practice.
  • Monitors, and as necessary, coordinates compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.
  • Manages the oversight and compliance with any regulatory reporting.
  • Acts as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues and concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.
  • Institutes and maintains an effective compliance communication program for the organization, including promoting (a) use of the compliance hotline, (b) heightened awareness of Code of Conduct, and (c) understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis and, as directed or requested, keeps the senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a compliance officer role preferred.
  • Exceptional knowledge of legal requirements and procedures.
  • Experience working under a Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA)
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, finance, business management or a related field. Master’s preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in compliance process improvement and the requirements of Federal healthcare programs requirements. Other success factors include past clinical, legal, auditing or other compliance experience.
