We’re looking for a highly motivated Credit Analyst to work on our Asset Based Lending (ABL) Portfolio Management team in Boston or Chicago.


This professional will be a member of the analyst team that supports ABL Portfolio Managers and Underwriters that are responsible for all aspects of portfolio management including transaction structuring, underwriting, credit approval, portfolio monitoring and problem loan identification for a portfolio that may consist of core ABL, retailers and lender finance clients. ABL is a product for the bank. The ABL team is active on sponsor and restructuring credits as well.


The qualified candidate will conduct detailed research and analysis of market data, trends and other factors related to the financing that will be considered as part of credit decisions. This individual will also be responsible to understand and apply credit policy and field questions related to financial analysis and interpreting financial statements.

A Day in the Life of a Corporate Banking Credit Analyst
  • Assist with the preparation of credit requests on a timely basis providing critical views on the business, amendments and restructures including:
  • Liaise with portfolio managers and product partners including loan operations, cash management, derivatives, corporate card, leasing, to proactively manage issues so that revenue opportunities are maximized and customer satisfaction is maintained.
  • Analyze compliance with policy and underwriting guidelines and work with PMs to provide recommendations to improve structure and mitigate risks
  • Detail credit issues, performance and industry trends
  • Work with Portfolio Management to complete the closing process
  • Contribute to the preparation of deal screens as needed by Portfolio or Underwriting to support Originations.
  • Assist in the preparation of Portfolio Reviews and Watch Meetings, including a clear understanding of the potential risks and mitigants of accounts.
  • Assist the Portfolio Team on achieving compliance targets for annual reviews, risk ratings, and covenant compliance monitoring.
  • Participate in the underwriting process and conduct accurate, well organized analysis of various ABL borrowers including financial statement and projection analysis along with preparing profitability, risk and facility rating models
  • Communicate internally as well as with customers directly on financial analysis or account management issues
  • Assist in the review of ABL collateral monitoring tools (Trend Card, Insurance, UCC tracking and priority on Stucky Exception Reporting).
  • Identify situations that may require policy exceptions and make recommendations that mitigate credit risks or remedy possible exceptions
  • Interact directly with Portfolio Managers, Underwriting and Relationship Managers to answer questions related to financial reporting requirements, interpreting financial statements from other Credit Analysts and maintaining credit files
  • Work with Underwriting and PMs to help assist the on-boarding of new ABL credits.
  • Conduct written summaries of related industry and market environments, preliminary customer/prospect analysis including Sponsor analysis, and Borrower’s operating history and repayment capacity

Requirements


  • Position requires basic internet search skills, developed knowledge of financial statement spreading and profitability modeling, effective verbal and written communications skills, ability to manage multiple priorities at once
  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 1-3 years of commercial banking experience is preferred. Commercial Banking experience may include internships, formal credit training, business banking, middle market, and/or specialty commercial banking, commercial banking administration, commercial banking operations, capital markets, leveraged finance, commercial credit/risk oversight, and commercial loan documentation/funding/servicing or other relevant experience.
  • Equivalent work experience or completion of formal credit training program and up to 2 years of applied financial analysis working with straight forward to moderately complex credits in a commercial banking environment is strongly preferred
