BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

This position is responsible for the assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of specific health care delivery processes and programs that lead to safe, efficient, effective, timely, patient-centered care across the injured patient population. Working collaboratively with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, the Coordinator of Trauma Performance Improvement assists in assuring health programs and processes are aligned with Level I Trauma Center standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons and with the health care system's strategic plan. The Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator may also assist with patient care that is within scope of practice for licensure maintained.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Monitor and evaluate clinical processes and outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided to trauma patients from the time of injury through the continuum of care. Participate in event identification and case review.

Coordinate performance improvement (PI) activities to address opportunities for improvement, promote loop closure and enhance clinical outcomes.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in cross-departmental teams.

Review health care literature for best practices and begin an internal gap analysis to assess feasibility for immediate adoption. Collaborate with patient care leaders to review literature-based best practice, and co-develop the plan and timeline to implement these practices.

Participate in the development and implementation of process changes based on best practices. Coach and refine process and behavioral changes within health care teams. Assist in training plan development and deployment for changing patient care/clinical team processes.

Ensure compliance by establishing an evaluation plan to monitor the adoption rates by health care team members. Prepare results reports, with targets, for immediate feedback to the involved teams.

Contribute to evidence-based improvement sharing by assisting with preparation of publications or presentations among other health care systems and/or professional group conferences.

Assist with maintenance of trauma registry.

Provide feedback and follow-up to referring hospitals as well as EMS and air ambulance agencies.

Provide clinical care that is supportive to the trauma program and that is within scope of practice of the professional licensure that is maintained.

May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree

Lean Six Sigma within five (5) years as a condition of continued employment in this job description.

Licensed by the Missouri state regulatory board relevant to clinical background, if applicable.

Three (3) years of recent clinical experience.

Experience or training in performance improvement or patient safety.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Nursing, Engineering, Health Care Management, Business, or a related field, or Black Belt certificate in Lean/Six Sigma.

Experience in medical terminology, disease processes, treatment protocols and/or training of adult learners is highly desirable.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
