Job description
Reporting to the Director of Operations (DOO), the Controller will lead all day-to-day accounting operations and supervise a team of accounting staff members. This role will have functional responsibility for accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration. The Controller will partner with the Executive Director (ED), senior leadership, human resources (HR), programs, and other resources to educate them regarding procedures applicable to their area, explore how the accounting function can support program and department operations, and ensure a clear understanding of accounting-related activities. The Controller will serve as the main point of contact for audit purposes with guidance from the DOO.
Job Functions:
- Contribute to the financial strategies of the organization.
- Support and promote the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
- Oversee the management of all client accounts.
- Be willing and able to perform the duties of accounting staff members when needed.
- Conduct internal audits and serve as the primary point of contact for external audits.
- Supervise and act as an advisor to accounting staff.
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with general GAAP principles and standards applicable to not-for-profits.
- Responsible for creating and assisting in the presentation of financial reports.
- Address accounting system(s) issues timely and ensure prompt resolution.
- Collaborate with the DOO to perform an annual analysis of benefit plans.
- Continuously collaborate to assess the financial efficacy of program operations.
- Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process.
- Identify opportunities and recommend methods to improve service, work processes, and financial performance
