Job Description

Yellowstone Cattle Feeders is Montana’s largest commercial feedlot focused on providing customized services to manage cattle into high quality markets nationally and locally.The Controller will work on-site in beautiful southeastern Montana just 20 miles from Billings.


What you’ll doing:

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with our livestock and office teams, you will:

  • Oversee the financial activities of the organization.

  • Manage all aspects of business loan portfolio, including loans to customers.

  • Provide financial information and analysis to management and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.


  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.

  • Prepare financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Provide financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

  • Work with the CEO to develop key performance factors and measurements for company performance.

  • Maintain and reconcile general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, accounts payable.

  • Develop the company’s budget and forecasts; report significant budget differences to management.

  • Work with external auditors and provides needed information for regular audits.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned, including human resources, payroll, and general business management.


About you:

The successful candidate for this role will have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Experience in Ag Lending preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field required.Agribusiness a plus.
  • A combination of experience and education equivalent to the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work at a high level will be considered.
  • Experience in the cattle industry strongly preferred.
  • At least five years of financial accounting experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred but not required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with or ability to learn proprietary software.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Solid business development, analytical, and credit skills.
  • Team player.
  • Positive and innovative attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
