Job Description
Company Description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

We are looking for a Compliance Operations Program Manager to join Square and support the continued improvement of our Seller Compliance program. Our mission is to make banking and financial services accessible to the underserved and unbanked by designing and implementing an outstanding compliance program to help grow the Seller business while protecting the broader financial ecosystem and the Company.

In this role, you will support the compliance operations team by contributing to the design and effectiveness of preventative and detective measures to enable proper detection and ongoing review as part of the program. You will collaborate with Compliance Leads and other relevant stakeholders to ensure our program complies with all applicable laws and regulations across jurisdictions. You will demonstrate excellent regulatory, process and systems design, data analytics, and documentation abilities.

You will:

  • Provide guidance regionally and globally on PEP regulations and related policies and procedures
  • Build operational processes and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, payment network rules and industry best practices
  • Make recommendations for and assist in executing process improvements and procedure updates for the Compliance team
  • Create tactical and scalable solutions for operational teams to manage compliance tasks and risks
  • Develop and maintain program frameworks and governance over the EDD program
  • Stay informed of regulatory developments, payment network rules, industry trends and Square roadmaps to drive decisions
  • Communicate the progress of and oversee the end-to-end implementation of each operational change to leadership and relevant stakeholders
  • Evaluate BSA/AML KYC and EDD requirements for new and existing products or features
  • Draft and maintain relevant documentation and content for changes to the program in accordance with regulatory updates, new products, and overall Compliance team policies and procedures

Qualifications

You have:

  • Strong communication, problem solving and process management skills
  • 3+ years as a project or program manager with direct experience in BSA/AML compliance and operations or 4+ years in relevant compliance operations role
  • Advanced knowledge of compliance related issues including KYC, EDD, and PEP in the payments industry
  • An ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • A metrics-driven approach to create substantiated solutions
  • In-depth expertise in BSA/AML regulations, risks and typologies
  • In-depth understanding of compliance, operational risk, internal control framework and customer friction

Even Better:

  • Relevant industry certifications (CAMS, CFE, CFCS, CRCM)
  • Experience with SQL and/or Looker
  • Project management experience
