The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for
COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION SPECIALIST I

There are multiple vacancies in several departments.
Interviews will take place the week of July 3, 2023, for the Department of Homeless Solutions and Equitable Communities.
Job offers for the selected candidates will be made on or before July 14, 2023.

Per County rules, this position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $58,510.40 annually.
County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for step placement in accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.

FUTURE SALARY INCREASES
**July 2023 - 3.4% increase to base pay (2.75 % Across-the-Board + 0.65% Market Increase)
**July 2024 - 3.4% increase to base pay (2.75 % Across-the-Board + 0.65% Market Increase)
Community Health Promotion Specialist I incumbents are responsible for independently planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive public health education, community health education, and health promotion programs.

As a Community Health Promotion Specialist I, you will prepare comprehensive, technical education and health promotion programs and materials for a wide variety of audiences on any number of health topics.

INTERVIEWS AND HIRING PROCESS

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in public health with a specialization in public health education, community health education or health promotion from a program accredited by the *Council on Education for Public Health (California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Section 1303).

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
Employees who work at County locations subject to the California Department of Public Health State Public Health Officer order are required to be fully vaccinated. In addition, booster-eligible employees must receive their booster by March 1, 2022, or within 15 days of becoming eligible for a booster if they are not eligible as of March 1, 2022. If there are CDPH date changes for Booster compliance, employees must come into compliance in accordance with that date.
If unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated (including booster), employees in some locations covered by the Public Health Officer Orders who remain in the workplace may be eligible for an accommodation.
EVALUATION PROCESS
Qualified applicants will be placed on a three (3) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
