The Opportunity

The MH Specialist is primarily in the classroom to monitor behaviors, intervene when necessary and provide group rehab services. The MH Specialist should be aware of trigger points that can set off a student and be able to intervene before the student escalates to time away or worse. This can be accomplished by utilizing a variety of techniques. Techniques may include, but are not limited to the following: quietly reminding the client of what his/her goals and objectives are, taking the child outside of the classroom to process what may be bothering him/her, and verbal de-escalation. The Mental Health Specialist should be consulted when a child needs extreme behavioral intervention such as extended time outside of the classroom.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Running group rehab daily
• Supervision with Mental Health Clinical Director
• Attend weekly treatment team meeting
• Assisting in the community meeting
• Is the lead in the therapeutic milieu
• Working with the classroom staff in running the journal activity, which includes
• Follow treatment goals of each student
• Conducting mental health interventions
• Individual rehab as needed
• Completing daily and weekly progress notes
• Give feedback to the team on the mental health of the students
• Attend IEP meetings as needed
• Being a part of the classroom team

Qualifications

• 2 years of related experience working with youth/student/adult care
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Commitment to learning and implementing feedback
• Ability to adapt and remain flexible
