GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Communications, Outreach, and DEI Manager is an integral member of the Management team, working to facilitate the Health Center’s communications, outreach, and diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) activities. The Communications, Outreach, and DEI manager’s objectives are to manage communications, public relations, and outreach with internal and external stakeholders across all aspects of NEW Health including marketing and educational materials and social media content. The manager will liaison with NEW Health and MGB departments and leadership to identify and disseminate opportunities for implementing policies and creating an environment that is more inclusive and consistent for staff and patients. The candidate will establish and maintain solid working relationships with all levels of management and employees and work to address diversity and inclusion matters strategically and proactively with a goal of addressing structural and overt racism within and outside the organization. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communications:

  • Update website
  • Plan and manage the design, content, and production of all print and digital marketing materials.
  • Lead the development and oversight of:
    • NEW Health’s website, online presence, social media, and marketing strategies.
    • Communications supporting health center programs and initiatives.
  • Create innovative informative content, press releases, articles, and media opportunities.
  • Serve as Health Center patient advocate.
  • Work with the Public Affairs Coordinator and Public Relations consultant to:
    • Create innovative informative content, press releases, articles, and media opportunities.
    • Update website
    • Deliver content through the various media channels.
    • Plan and manage the design, content, and production of all print and digital marketing materials.
  • Communications supporting health center programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with all internal teams to create standardized and compelling communications for internal and external dissemination.
  • Oversee brand recognition.
  • Oversee regular staff communications as needed including monthly staff electronic newsletter.
  • Deliver content through the various media channels.
  • Provide excellent strategic communications guidance to NEW Health leadership to engage the public’s interest in NEW Health’s programs and service offerings.
  • NEW Health’s website, online presence, social media, and marketing strategies.

Outreach:

  • Work with the Development consultant and the Board of Directors Fundraising and Marketing Committees to engage in outreach strategies and programming.
  • Work NEW Health leadership and community partners to address root causes of health inequities and support the provision of services that meet the needs of a diverse patient population.
  • Oversee monthly electronic community newsletter.
  • Manage outreach events, serving as chair of the Health Education and Outreach Committee.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

  • Provide data-related support and help report progress toward DEI strategy goals.
  • Serve as the chair of the DEI committee and represent the Health Center in DEI initiatives.
  • Work to educate administrative leadership on the benefits of verifying race and ethnicity of staff in order to monitor retention and advancement.
  • Keep abreast of best practices and current trends in diversity and inclusion recruitment and bring the knowledge to inform recruitment activities at NEW Health.
  • Craft and execute internal and external DEI communications.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and logistics of regular DEI events, trainings, and meetings with a focus on developing a comprehensive training pathway on anti-racism and structural equity, which will provide staff consistent and continuous training opportunities, tailored to their responsibilities that support and challenge learners to develop and apply equity-based practices.

Manage communications and outreach staff.

Respond to communications in a timely manner.

Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A./B.S. and 5+ years of related experience required with at least one year of experience with professional development, diversity and/or equity.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Can be flexible and work comfortably both independently, and as part of a team with other Health Center and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing forward creative solutions.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to supervise multiple projects.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of organization, must be detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated success developing DEI strategic communications plans.
  • Ability to think creatively, both in terms of problem-solving and program planning/execution.
  • Actively seek and incorporate ideas/feedback from others.
  • Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Enthusiastic and focused on creating a community within marginalized communities including Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), first-gen, LGBTQIA, and disability communities.
  • Strong familiarity with best practices for social media accounts.
  • Bilingual or multicultural perspectives are a strong plus.
  • Excellent analytical and time-management skills.
  • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Interest in the development of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially within a healthcare environment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise, effective, and accurate messaging on a wide variety of topics for broad audiences.
  • Ability to work nonstandard hours and travel to off-site events as necessary.
  • Ability to work well with staff across and at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information
