About the Opportunity
The College Board Communications and Marketing internship program gives students an opportunity to gain meaningful experience in disciplines that create and support college readiness and the college planning process. The program takes great pride in fostering the up-and-coming communications and marketing stars of tomorrow. Through our hands-on program, students are embedded with our team and take on meaningful roles and responsibilities alongside a dedicated team of professionals that share the stories of how our programs and services help millions of students transition to college and career. The internship program transitions students from college or university curriculum to practical applications in professional organizational communication and/or marketing project settings.
The College Board Communications and Marketing internship program:
  • Develops future communications and marketing leaders.
  • Provides students meaningful professional experience in preparation for related careers.
  • Supports competency in four key areas: research, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Primary Responsibilities
The Communications and Marketing intern will have a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment while gaining real-world experience in communications. The intern will join the Communications and Marketing team in sharing compelling stories about the College Board, our programs and services, and the students we serve. Whether you’re a creative storyteller who likes to write or use a range of communications tools to animate ideas, or you’re looking for effective ways to distribute action-oriented content to others, you can expect to develop confidence and marketable skills by engaging in or assisting a specific team within one of the following areas:
  • Marketing Automation: This intern will primarily support our marketing automation team by using their process-driven nature and analytical mindset to update and build triggered emails and automations to meet brand standards, assist with HTML email production and email analytics, plus work with multiple teams to deploy key campaigns. You have a background in marketing and technology tools, specifically marketing automation or email marketing software. You’re likely a business or marketing student or pursuing a CS degree.
  • Growth Marketing: This intern will support the BigFuture Growth Marketing team to create campaigns and analyze performance. You will build and update marketing assets and campaigns, overlaying weekly metrics to understand impact and outcomes. You’ll be in a unique position to support a website rebrand, a back-to-school student campaign, and a new product launch for our higher ed audiences. Success in this internship requires strong project management skills and creative ideas about reaching Gen Z. You’ll craft content, build assets, and continually measure along the way. You’re likely a marketing, communications, advertising, public relations, or business major.
  • Organizational Communications: This intern will support our organizational communications team to build processes to track our media relations intake and outreach and support our media engagement activities. You’re process-driven and are interested in developing, tracking, indexing, and identifying assets and materials to be used with key audiences. You have a knack for storytelling and understanding the voices in the world that matter most. You’re likely a journalism or communications major with strong project management skills.
  • Social Media Engagement and Content: This intern will support the College Board social media team to develop and drive engaging content that reaches key audiences on College Board and BigFuture social media channels. You’ll identify trends, write, schedule, and post content, and respond to audiences across various accounts to build community, drive community and grow the subscriber base. You’re likely a digital media, marketing, or advertising major with a background in graphic design, video editing, and/or writing.

While interns will focus on specific teams and duties will be tailored to the intern’s interest/area of study, but typical responsibilities and exposure to key areas for all communications and marketing interns include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing and implementing marketing campaigns that drive awareness of and traffic to our college planning services.
  • Supporting College Board partnerships in key events through media relations, social media, and blog writing.
  • Planning and conducting interviews with students, counselors, or other educators.
  • Creating email, text, and social media content for high school students that inspires them to take action on their journey to college.
  • Responding to media inquiries and pitching stories to national, state, and trade outlets.
  • Monitoring news and social media using the latest research tools.
  • Developing stories that leverage multimedia assets coupled with our data to augment our owned communication channels through earned media.
  • Using student perspectives to create interactive experiences for internal Customer Service training.
  • Assisting in real-time engagement with student and educator communities.
  • Analyzing data to inform storytelling and presentation materials.
  • Drawing on high school and college experiences to offer perspective on student mindsets, concerns, and motivations.
  • Analyzing counselor data to develop an innovative campaign driving counselor support of CB programs.
  • Analyzing our email, text, and social campaign performance to improve results and recommend new approaches.
The Communications and Marketing intern will help shape materials and efforts that can positively impact millions of students. They will foster creativity and build meaningful collaborations throughout the organization.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program specifically focused in communications and marketing fields
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence others to action
  • General knowledge of education on a national or state level
  • Committed to working the entire agreed-on internship period
  • Adept problem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in editing and CRM software programs
  • General understanding of computers and digital equipment and knowledge of new and cutting-edge technology
  • Excellent PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and MS Project skills
