Job Description

As part of the education programing with The Learning Centers at Fairplex (TLC), the Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) provides hands-on workforce development and transformational programs that prepare local high school students for long-term career pathways. Through hands-on classroom instruction by credentialed instructors who are industry professionals, engagement with industry experts from the surrounding communities, and interaction with real work sites and professional environments, CTEC provides innovative learning experiences that give students the necessary skills to enter the workforce or continue on the pathway of higher education. Each career pathway consists of several courses that give students the opportunity to not only gain hands-on experience and exploration of career options, but also includes the training in the essential skills necessary to obtain and retain employment in today’s labor market.
Reporting to the TLC Executive Director, and working closely with the Education Coordinator and CTEC instructors, the College and Career Services Counselor, is responsible for ensuring each TLC-CTEC student has developed an education and career plans so they are they employment-ready, so they have career-placement options in the industry of their chosen career technical pathway, or has been given guidance for furthering their education and training (post high school). The College and Career Services Counselor is also responsible for developing relationships with employers who are looking to hire TLC-CTEC students that have received the necessary certifications according to the career training path they are enrolled in, while also strengthening relationship with local schools. Finally, the College and Career Services Counselor is responsible for the CTEC program evaluation efforts of the program and will lead efforts in tracking outcomes for CTEC alumni.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Facilitate workshops and engage CTEC parents to enhance their understanding of the CTEC program and career opportunities for their students
  • Maintain regular communication with alumni for additional support via mentoring, exposure to additional programs, and career assistance services
  • Support with student enrollment strategies for the CTEC program
  • Support current CTEC Students with the development of educational and career plans (post high school), as well as the development of essential skills (Career readiness)
  • Advise CTEC students and alumni on preparation for a pursuit of educational and professional opportunities
  • Networks and develops relationships with local school districts, institutions of higher education, and workforce development programs in relationship to our CTEC programs, especially with college counselors at local high schools
Networks and develops relationships with regional employers and other workforce stakeholders to assess career opportunities for CTEC students/alumni
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Support program TLC staff and instructors with identifying data sources, calculating baselines, setting targets, benchmark goals, etc.
  • Develop data collection methods that asses outcomes for CTEC program efficacy and student success
  • Support TLC programming team to assure CTEC program/instruction is based on current researched, evidence-based practices, and current CA state standards for Career Technical Education
  • Support TLC communications team with developing qualitative and quantitative narratives about the CTEC program (to be included in newsletters and social media posts)
  • Work with TLC programing to develop a cycle of program improvement through data coaching and regular data analysis and interpretation
  • Help ensure that CTEC data collection is in compliance with grant requirements
  • Support Executive Director and Development Coordinator with various types of reporting including grant reports and internal reviews

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of designing, planning, conducting, and evaluating one or more service areas in which TLC is engaged
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Self-directed and capable of working to meet quick turnaround and deadlines independently
  • Experience with methods and procedures for data acquisition, management and quality control
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Maintain a professional attitude, confidentiality, and respect cultural differences
  • Bachelor degree in education, educational counseling, or a related field preferred
  • Excellent data visualization and presentation skills. Knowledge in using Excel, Google Suite, Canva or other software to develop graphs and tables for a general audience.
  • Experience interpreting outcomes and evaluation data for informed programmatic decision-making
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience in education
  • Familiarity in setting baselines and benchmarks for success as well as programmatic development tools such as logic models
  • Strong familiarity with demographic, health and economic, or educational datasets.
  • Experience managing data systems and the administration of evaluation tools such as surveys, etc. preferred
  • Experience with career technical education, workforce development, CA High School graduation requirements, and financial aid systems
  • Expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative analysis
  • Demonstrated record of successful evaluation design, development and management

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to move around fairgrounds
