The Clinical Safeguarding Specialist is responsible for supporting the safeguarding and risk functions for Kooth Behavioral Health Services. Accountable for the delivery of strategic objectives that ensure that the Kooth offer is safe and in line with regulatory frameworks. Provide support and guidance for both Kooth staff as well as external stakeholders, including school based staff, health care providers, commissioners and emergency teams as required.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Safeguarding and Risk
- Contributes to the review of safeguarding processes, including risk management, risk reporting and risk prevention.
- Contributes to the on-call provision, ensuring that Practitioners are adequately supported in dealing with safeguarding risks.
- Supports and may lead on conversations with external providers when onward referrals are required, or emergency services need to be contacted.
- Offers specialist advice to internal staff (within scope of expertise) on safeguarding and its applicability within youth behavioral health (including vulnerable adults).
- Feeds into the risk register to ensure that safeguarding specific issues are picked up and appropriately understood in terms of cause, effect, and mitigation.
- Supports the development of all policies relating to safeguarding and works closely with colleagues in service delivery to help ensure that any guidance is implemented ‘on the ground’.
- Completes daily tasks to ensure that relevant legislation regarding the safety of youth using the Kooth service is in line with relevant legislation as guided by the Director of Safeguarding.
- Contributes to the implementation of actions to mitigate identified safeguarding risks.
- Supports the ‘lessons learned’ process, by contributing to discussions and reviews as well as specific corrective actions following safeguarding incidents.
Behavioral Health
- Provides direct support to relevant teams where there is a safeguarding element, including product, content, and service delivery; this could be through both formal and informal mechanisms as required.
- Contributes to the review of relevant policies to ensure that they remain in line with regulatory and best practice frameworks regarding any safeguarding elements.
- Conducts practice audits as appropriate to role as part of the overall governance function with a specific focus on the area of safety.
- Remains up to date with relevant evidence-based practices in the behavioral health domain, generally and within digital health specifically
Stakeholder Management
- Meets with key staff across the organization, as well as externally as advised by the Safeguarding Director, to ensure a clear understanding of the role of the safeguarding team and to provide assurances as required.
- Supports the Safeguarding Director in a timely and accurate provision of relevant safeguarding activity to local commissioners and stakeholders in line with contract compliance requirements.
- Attend industry conferences and meetings, building relationships with key stakeholders and developing professional knowledge in the field of youth safeguarding within behavioral health.
Training
- Actively seeks to develop new skills through shadowing the training of others and continuous professional development opportunities.
- Supports the training team by contributing to the learning and development program for Practitioners. This could be through a one-off session or through contributing to the training program on a regular basis as agreed.
- Ensures that any training regarding safeguarding and risk management is up to date with national and local policy.
Analytics, Reporting & Insights
- Supports the Safeguarding Director in collecting data in preparation for monthly reporting to demonstrate team activity, trends, and challenges.
- Contributes to the incident reporting framework relating to practice by collecting relevant data required for reviews.
- Uses insights from auditing, team support, and on call activities to feed into conversations regarding potential risks to service users, Practitioners, and the wider organization, as part of a proactive approach to quality improvement.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Direct experience working within the youth behavioral health sector.
- 3+ years of experience managing risk in a relevant field, with demonstrable knowledge of regulatory frameworks/challenges in relation to youth behavioral health.
- Clinical license in a related field preferable but not essential.
- Master’s Degree Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, Counseling, or a relevant field.
Travel Requirements: This role may require some travel to California.
Compensation: $70,000-$80,000 based on experience.
