Position Focus:
The YCC Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for ensuring excellence in the execution of clinical trials conducted by the Yale Cancer Center (YCC). This position is also responsible for directing the design, plan, delivery and evaluation of clinical trial related implementation and training activities, which primarily includes, but is not limited to, Research Coordinators and Assistants, non-clinical research staff and clinical personnel located at the research site.
Essential Duties
1. Evaluates and assesses subject’s suitability for inclusion in studies; develops and modifies procedures according to study findings; recommends changes to the study protocol to coincide with study goals and objectives. 2. Develops and implements procedures and data quality assurance standards for safety monitoring components of studies. 3. Contributes to designing activities, policies and procedures to improve day to day efficiency of the recruitment and assessment components of the study and to ensure that staff members perform activities within established research protocol. 4. Arranges patient enrollment, determines patient eligibility and obtains informed consent. 5. Develops study subject referral sources; designs and develops outreach programs. 6. Collaborates with multidisciplinary researchers to coordinate research programs that integrate new advances in clinical trials. 7. Delegates tasks and supervises the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Active CT RN License.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Excellent clinical, analytical and organizational skills with demonstrated research nursing ability. Working knowledge of clinical trials administration.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Proven ability to develop and participate in the delivery of training for new protocols. Excellent ability to communicate both through oral and written expression.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Ability to assess protocols for feasibility and determine complexity, identify risks, logistics and challenges associated with operationalizing and implementing trials.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Proven ability to manage several projects concurrently while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Well-developed ability to work as an interdisciplinary team member to accomplish organizational goals.
Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut or Connecticut license eligible.
