Job Description
Department Overview:
The purpose of this position is to support the Brenden-Colson Center for Pancreatic Care in contributing to its research studies and repository of biological specimens and data, by consenting patients, collecting tissue and blood samples in collaboration with OHSU clinics, and ensuring safe storage and accurate recording of the samples. This employee will have the opportunity to interact with several different OHSU clinics, physicians and researchers and will be part of a dedicated translational research team aiming to make a real difference for cancer patients and early detection of pancreas disease.
Function/Duties of Position:
Responsibilities will include picking up human specimens in the clinic, chart review, clinic schedule monitoring, data entry, informing potential patients about pancreas research studies, consenting and enrolling appropriate patients, and maintaining and querying a database of participants in multiple studies. Professional and caring demeanor and appropriate attire is required for patient and provider interactions. This job will allow you to take part in a variety of assignments, to thrive in a team-oriented environment, and to learn from the OHSU Knight Cancer Institutes internationally respected scientists and clinicians at the forefront of cancer research. Your demonstrated strong organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to pay attention to detail, be flexible, communicate clearly, take responsibility for seeing issues through, and follow direction yet work independently when necessary will help you meaningfully contribute to this important research work.   • Chart review, clinical schedule review, data entry and database maintenance, communication with providers and staff.
  • Identifying, consenting, and tracking participants for clinical studies, high-risk surveillance trials/registries, and other studies as developed.
  • Provide highest level of customer service to both external customers and internal customers.
  • Collecting and processing human specimens from surgery and diagnostic clinics and staff who are treating pancreas disease patients or control subjects.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research /No Experience, OR
  • AA/RN (2 yr) and 3 years of relevant experience, OR
  • 2 years as an OHSU RA 1.
  • Computer skills; strong organizational abilities; strong data management skills; ability to work independently;
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS/BA
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience including volunteer or educational
