SUMMARY

Perform complex planning and design, both short-and long-range planning, the development of recommendations on planning and zoning issues, and assist with grant activities for related planning and zoning studies and projects including current and comprehensive planning, zoning and subdivision ordinances and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) compliance. Provide calculations, maps, records and other data pertaining to planning, zoning and development to the Commission and the agencies within the Commission’s jurisdiction; plan coordinate, and lead small scale planning projects, public participation and research projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree with major course work in planning, or in one of the related social or engineering sciences. Some planning experience is required with the Bachelor’s degree. OR a Master’s degree in city, regional, or urban planning in absence of experience is acceptable. AICP certification is desirable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

• Use ArcGIS or similar software to create maps of various locations; prepare presentation maps upon request.
• Research regulations and policies and aid in their revisions when necessary.
• Prepare written staff reports and make presentations.
• Assist in the administration of the comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, subdivision ordinance and sign ordinance.
• Provide recommendations by researching zoning and subdivision ordinances in reference to specific developer and citizens’ needs, and provide accurate information to the City Planning Commission.
• Assist developers, engineers, and citizens with various development related laws including, but not limited to, annexation, subdivisions, zoning and signs.
• Answer questions and provide general information to the public and governing bodies regarding planning, zoning and development issues.
• Prepare findings for the Zoning Board of Adjustment, City Planning Commission, City Council and other related boards or commissions as necessary.
• Respond to information from management, officials, and the public.
• Advise & confer with and provide information to applicants, property owners, contractors, developers, engineers, architects and the public regarding conformance to standards, plans specifications and codes; interpret and explain codes, requirements and procedures and evaluate alternatives.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data and summaries in report form.
• Conduct interviews, surveys and site inspections concerning factors that affect land usage such as zoning, traffic flow and housing, determining if projects are in compliance with local ordinances and permits; issue compliance notices and initiate enforcement actions.

This is a FLSA exempt position.
Hours will require attending meetings or events which may be in the evening and/or on weekends..
