Job Description
This position supervises clinical staff and students in the outpatient therapy services of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, and Audiology at the Center for Disabilities and Development. This position will maintain and evaluate current patient care programs, predicting the need for new programs, and implementing changes in present programs to ensure the quality of care. Assist in ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients while maintaining efficient and effective workflows by planning, organizing, and supervising the treatment of patients, manage daily operations and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
This position will also provide formal examination and evaluations, with the interpretation of findings and administer or recommend appropriate treatments for pediatric and adult patients with complex developmental/childhood-onset conditions or injuries. Provide empathetic and evidence-based interventions to improve physical, social, and intellectual abilities, promoting overall well-being. This position is 25% managerial and 75% clinical responsibilities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of sound fiscal policy.
  • Providing educational experiences to staff and students.
  • Train therapists in new or revised work methods and procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve problems encountered by patients, families, and other departmental customers.
  • The primary area of responsibility is outpatient therapy for pediatric patients served through the Center for Disabilities and Development.
  • Evaluates the performance and competencies of all assigned staff.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other providers and families as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate clinical education for physical therapy professional students.
  • Plan and assign work for staff within the division.
  • Assess compliance with accrediting organizations.
  • Demonstrating the ability to set and accomplish divisional/departmental goals.
  • Plans and carries out staff recruitment, orientation, and development.
  • Lead department quality/process improvement activities and recommend opportunities for improvement in service quality.
  • Maintaining a high level of clinical productivity.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Examine problems and issues within rehabilitation medicine and within the health delivery system and recommend areas needing consideration within the department.
  • Participate in the development of and conduct innovative clinical teaching activities to meet the learning needs of staff and students.

  • Provide quality patient care, evaluation, assessment, and treatment appropriate for patients with complex or specialized needs.
  • Provide long-range planning and establish annual working objectives for the division.
  • Manages the talents, strengths, and behaviors of everyone in a diverse work group, while providing each employee with the opportunity to contribute to the goals of the unit.
  • Assist in budget planning and resource allocation, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and efficient utilization of equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate work and services between departments and assist in the resolution of intra-departmental and interdepartmental operating problems.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience with mobility assessment including wheelchair seating and equipment and assistive devices.
  • Minimum of 3 years of rehabilitation experience in Occupational or Physical Therapy.
  • A Master's degree or equivalent combination of clinical experience and education in a field related to the clinical practice of one of the professions represented (physical therapy or occupational therapy) within the department is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to demonstrate public speaking ability, positive interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of and/or lead teams and work groups.
  • Licensure in accordance with the Iowa Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy by the time of hire.
  • Experience in evaluation and treatment of pediatric patients with developmental disabilities and diseases of childhood.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in leadership/management roles.
  • Knowledge of University and UIHC policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial and productivity data.
