Job Description
This position functions as a Community Outreach Liaison (50%) supporting leadership training and delivering health education and support in a range of community and clinical settings to enhance access to care and improve health outcomes. This position will work with the Center for Disabilities and Development on their LEND, ON TRAC and UCEDD grants, Child Health Specialty Clinics (CHSC) and Division of Child and Community Health (DCCH). This is a specified term position ending 6/30/2024 with strong likelihood of renewal with available funding.
  • Assists in development and implementation of multiple training programs for DCCH, ON TRAC, LEND and UCEDD, including presentation of curriculums, marketing, recruiting, logistics, etc.
  • Mentors and supports trainees from Puerto Rico and the family discipline trainees.
  • Coordinates with DCCH Division Training Coordinator, ON TRAC program coordinator, LEND Training Director, and UCEDD medical training coordinator on program information and materials to ensure understanding of topics and materials to be presented.
  • Attends bi-monthly ILEND core faculty meetings
  • Participates in multiple program improvement workgroups across CDD, CHSC and DCCH.
  • Completes associated post-training tasks such as sending follow up materials and collecting evaluations.
  • Coordinates cultural events and experiences for LEND trainees.
  • Demonstrates awareness of budget and practices cost control when assisting with development of training and marketing materials, cultural events, etc.
  • Ensure timely review of all communications from DCCH Training staff, ILEND, and ON TRAC in order to adequately respond to requests.
  • Attends monthly DCCH Health Equity Committee meetings.
  • Assist with LEND trainee, Parents as Mentors (PAM) and panelist recruitment through community outreach emphasizing outreach to diverse populations.
  • Provides trainings on behalf of DCCH, ON TRAC, LEND and UCEDD maintaining fidelity to the curriculums and programs.
  • Presents didactic seminars on Family-Centered Care, cultural responsiveness and other topics as needed.
  • Builds community outreach and engagement of diverse populations of people with disabilities and underserved groups including the Latino community (e.g. identifying engagement/outreach opportunities; staffing booths at local or regional events, etc.).
  • Assists with development of curriculum for cultural responsiveness and family-centered care and facilitates experiences for LEND trainees.
  • Coordinates translation of materials, as needed.
  • Support family core faculty from the family discipline.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to travel in surrounding geographic area and hold a valid driver's license, plus the ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standards (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter (19).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Completion of the Division Train the Trainer program, with 80% minimum achieved.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, diverse populations and serving as a cultural broker working between medically underserved community groups and U.S. healthcare systems.
  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Competence in and experience using Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Fluent oral and written communication in Spanish.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to deadlines

  • Experience as a parent or primary care giver managing the care of a child or youth with a special health care need.
  • Outstanding presentation skills
  • Knowledge of adult learning styles and teaching techniques
