Child Support Case Managers perform complex case management for parents in need of paternity, medical and support establishment, modification of an existing order, and maintenance of support orders. Duties include communicating with a variety of community partners including human service agencies, attorneys, clerks of court, county sheriffs, employers, corrections, and other entities to achieve the goals of the Child Support Program.

We are looking for someone who is respectful, positive, and a quick learner, as well as has a passion for serving and supporting families through the life of their Child Support order.

Child Support case management requires a person who can independently analyze a variety of complex case situations and legal scenarios to determine the appropriate action needed to establish, maintain, or modify support for families both in and out of the state of Iowa.

A large part of child support work requires communicating with customers via telephone, email, and written correspondence. Some customers may be reluctant to cooperate with Child Support services and programs. We are looking for a case manager who can build relationships with parents and work with them to ensure they are successful.

The selected applicant will be a highly motivated, organized individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and significant proficiency in Microsoft office programs (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook), Adobe, and a wide array of computerized child support functions. Experience/aptitude for learning and using multiple electronic systems is critically important for success in this position.

In Addition, Candidates Must Have The Ability To

  • Produce work that requires extreme accuracy.
  • Interact with employees and customers in a manner consistent with quality customer service delivery.
  • Work productively in a team environment.
  • Write clear, concise and accurate letters that are grammatically correct.
  • Comprehend and adhere to the confidentiality provisions stated in the Code of Iowa.
  • Manage assigned caseload and demonstrate critical thinking skills required to complete complex tasks independently.
  • Perform mathematical calculations needed to accurately reflect support obligations.
  • Adjust and adapt to work pressures, change or difficult situations impacting people or groups without unusual stress reactions.
  • Maintain high attendance, as excessive absenteeism negatively impacts the Child Support Program.
  • Accurately retrieve, upload and index mail from an electronic mail system.
  • Accurately enter, retrieve, file, generate and correct case folders and/or information from ICAR and various database systems.
  • Read and comprehend complex instructions--including federal, state and local laws, policy and procedures applicable to the Child Support Program--and apply them to child support casework.
  • Resolve problems/issues by using good listening and positive conflict resolution skills.
  • Travel occasionally when work is required outside of the office.
  • Prioritize complex tasks and time to meet established performance goals and critical deadlines.
