Job Description
The purpose of this position is to oversee set-up, and maintain the City’s computer systems and servers and to ensure that the City’s GIS & related data and developing web mapping applications are securely stored and backed up.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Executes the initial set up of new user accounts and their internet access.
  • Operates the City’s firewall processes and protocols.
  • Monitors the local area network (LAN) for threats or errors.
  • Manages and maintaining the file servers.
  • Designs and implements new computer systems or applications based on user needs, including gathering requirements and creating flowcharts, diagrams, mockups, or prototypes.
  • Works with other members of the City’s IT department to design and implement new systems that meet the City’s needs while maintaining efficiency and reducing cost.
  • Enforces security policies, and monitor employee access to sensitive information.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnose issues with existing computer systems or networks, including reviewing error messages, tracing errors to their source, documenting fixes, and communicating with other IT staff members about problems.
  • Employs the most up-to-date security protocols.
  • Monitors the internet connection for security risks, threats and potential breaches.

Knowledge
Job Specifications and Qualifications:
  • Methods, tools, and techniques of testing, troubleshooting, problem solving, and maintaining hardware and software related to computers, mobile devices, audio visual, network, and communication systems.
  • Knowledge of IT best practices, policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of technology innovations and trends.
  • Technical support.
  • Knowledge of computer software, hardware, and procedures.
Licensing And Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly and/or walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to wetness and/or humidity, extreme temperature.
  • Positions in this class require: standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, fine dexterity, reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, vision.
