At UnitedHealthcare, we’re simplifying the health care experience, creating healthier communities and removing barriers to quality care. The work you do here impacts the lives of millions of people for the better. Come build the health care system of tomorrow, making it more responsive, affordable and equitable. Ready to make a difference? Join us and start doing your life's best work.(sm)
UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Clinical Services is currently sponsoring the buildout of a new system called the Policy Integration Management System (PIMS) which will make the maintenance and utilization of prior authorization information, as well as the policies and guidelines it is based upon, much more efficient for the organization.
We are searching for a meticulous Business Operations Analyst to join our team, who will ensure that our prior authorization system remains functional and operational and meets / exceeds the expectations of our users. This person will execute / monitor recurring reference data loads, as well as cyclical reports and extracts, help to address any bugs surrounding new deployments, and research and assess any underlying data issues. This individual will also leverage the information within the system to generate custom extracts / reports that will help craft the story around the maintenance, performance, prediction and outcomes of clinical prior authorizations as well as the policies and guidelines they are based upon. This individual will also work directly with users of the system and our development team to ensure that the feedback, received from the end users of the system, is taken into consideration, as our system is further developed, refined, and enhanced.
To succeed, the person filling this position will need to adopt a sense of ownership over the operational components of PIMS and work to ensure the system remains functional, performs as expected, and meets / exceeds the needs of our users. This individual will need to have a natural desire to go beneath the surface of issues to ask the right questions and contribute to solutions by digging into large data sources and applying statistical rigor. The ideal candidate will have a knack for thinking “Big Picture” as well as enjoy digging into the details.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Build working relationships with end users and work to bring new users up to speed on how to utilize the system
  • Design, build, test, deliver and maintain comprehensive data analysis, extracts, reports, and dashboards for various stakeholders and team members
  • Act as a first line of defense to research and assess any issues that may arise and identify the root cause
  • Present complex data to non-technical end-users in a clear and concise manner through reporting visualization tools to help them make sense of the data
  • Prepare documentation, training material, and presentations and participate in training sessions and meetings with end users and leaders to ensure the user community knows how to leverage PIMS to make their jobs easier
  • Collaborate with and advise operational leaders to define and deliver Key Performance Indicators, benchmarks and trending metrics needed to operate the business
  • Monitor, execute, maintain, and test various components of our system (front-end, interfaces, extracts, reports, dashboards, etc.)
  • Independently identify patterns and trends and provide new insights to the business
  • Assist the development team in required modifications to various system components in order to address any operational issues
You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, specialized training/certification, OR equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of experience as a Data Analyst or similar role, facilitating and documenting requirements (such as process flows, test cases, and/or business requirement documents) gathered from both business and IT counterparts
  • Proficiency with Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • 2+ years of experience working with Databases, SQL
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of data analytics experience, healthcare analytics
  • MS Power BI experience and/or utilizing other BI visualization tools
  • Knowledge of healthcare administrative data (medical claims, enrollment, provider data)
  • Solid knowledge of extracting and developing key consumer insights within a population, distilling insights, and presenting to business leadership
  • Proficiency and understanding of IT management, data storage structures and the various ways data can be applied to aid in business intelligence
Soft Skills
  • Intuitive, self-starter with strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Extremely collaborative; proactive; high integrity; highly reliable
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, ability and comfort presenting to senior leadership
  • Solid organizational skills, time management and critical thinking skills
  • Thoughtful, analytical, effective in synthesizing, able to evaluate disparate data and generate insights
  • Versatility / flexibility - our work is ever evolving - not static - and requires someone who can flex and shift with changing priorities and business needs
