Job Summary:

The CU College of Nursing has openings for two full-time (1.00 FTE each) Behavioral Health Counselors / Instructors/Senior Instructors (open rank) in the Non-Tenure Clinical Practice Track within its federally qualified community health center, Sheridan Health Services (SHS), located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236). We are seeking one position entirely focused on Adolescent and Pediatric populations, and one position that may work exclusively with Adults, or flex between Adult and Pediatrics. SHS encompasses three clinical sites (CU Family Health Clinic, CU Youth Health Clinic, and CU Belleview Point Health Clinic).

The University of Colorado, College of Nursing, is seeking two full-time (1.00 FTE) Behavioral Health Counselors for full time, (1.0 FTE each) benefits-eligible position at the Sheridan Health Services (SHS) Family Health Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236). This position is clinic-based as a mental health provider and includes an Instructor or Senior Instructor (open rank) level, non-tenure clinical practice track appointment within the College of Nursing.

Clinic Description:

SHS is a multi-site, nurse-managed FQHC, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Primary Healthcare; and is a collaborative effort between the College of Nursing and the Sheridan School District. There are now 62 employees at three convenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents of Arapahoe, Denver, Adams, and Jefferson counties. The CU Youth Health Clinic is located in the Sheridan School District Administration building in Englewood, CO. The CU Belleview Point Health Clinic is located in southwest Aurora and the CU Family Health Clinic is located in southwest Denver on the Fort Logan campus and provides services to adults and children, 65% of whom identify as Latinx, and 42% of whom are best served in another language, with Spanish being the predominant second language. Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenatal and postpartum, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, and outpatient substance abuse treatment. SHS is a Patient-Centered Medical Home, and as such, we uphold a model of care that places the patient at the center, incorporating the values and beliefs of the patient in all decision-making. We extend the reach of the clinic through public health outreach where nursing students provide community outreach, health education, and home visitation services.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Evaluate crisis situations and take appropriate action to ensure client safety and the safety of all clinic users.
  • Provide case management and care coordination with providers of service including but not limited to primary care providers, school personnel, family members, and other mental health and community partners.
  • Completes necessary documentation according to established documentation timelines and in adherence with payor source(s) standards
  • Utilize best practices and provide all treatment within appropriate limits. Complete and follow through with financial and clinical information necessary to ensure reimbursement for provided services.
  • Participate in scheduled behavioral health team meetings, interdisciplinary work groups, monthly staff meetings, and other required meetings.
  • Expected to demonstrate high quality customer service focus, good communication and professionalism with clinic users, co-workers and representatives from outside agencies and to enhance community relationships.
  • Provide general outpatient behavioral health treatment via individual, group and family therapy, case management, crisis management, skill building, and psycho-education to Adults, children and/or adolescents.
  • Complete all required clinical and administrative documentation to accepted standards of practice, accurately, legibly, and by established timelines on electronic health record system and paper as needed.
  • Performs other duties as determined by the Behavioral Health Clinical Lead, Behavioral Health Director or Executive Director.

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications - Instructor:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish (proficient)
  • Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or similar, OR completion of approximately 2,700 hours of post-degree work experience and participation in approximately 65 hours of clinical supervision:
    • Have current licensure in good standing (any state), or have completed the number of hours mentioned above. Can be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have current active CO licensures within 6 months of hire.
  • Have current licensure in good standing (any state), or have completed the number of hours mentioned above. Can be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have current active CO licensures within 6 months of hire.
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling or closely related field.

Minimum Qualifications - Senior Instructor:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership in area of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students in practice activities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (proficient)

Conditions of employment:

  • Must be willing and able to obtain valid NPI number by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado licenses within six months of hire.

  • Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, SUD subspecialty certification, and/or Certified Addiction Technician/Specialist certification.
  • Experience providing behavioral health services in a primary care setting, using brief treatment modalities with an emphasis on time effective, recovery oriented, evidenced-based treatment.
  • Experience with prevention and early intervention approaches utilizing trauma informed care
  • Experience with care delivery that incorporates a social justice perspective around the intersectionality of racism, classism, LGBTQ issues, and other forms of oppression.
  • Experience working with population-based outcomes.

Competencies:

  • Ability to maintain standard caseload of patients
  • Ability to use computer and clinic software, and to document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Expertise in clinical assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and youth, families, and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of staff, faculty, community members, and clients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of primary care-behavioral health integrated programs, including fundamental elements of co-located and/or fully integrated services.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer and electronic medical record.
