Assessment and Referral Specialists conduct comprehensive, biopsychosocial evaluations for mental health, behavioral, and chemical dependency related issues. Specialists utilize critical thinking and experience to then provide recommendations for care and coordination to other caregivers, care managers and physicians. Specialists are responsible for the consultation, mental health and chemical dependency evaluation, safety assessment, care coordination, discharge planning, clinical and behavioral intervention, and resource referral throughout the hospital.Scope
As an Assessment & Referral Specialist you need to know how to:
- Provide appropriate recommendations for outpatient treatment or admission to inpatient services.
- Complete an Intermountain Health Behavioral Health Assessment, obtain collateral information when necessary, and develop diagnoses, risk assessment, and treatment plan recommendations.
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric and chemical dependency evaluations for patients.
- Work closely with the patient, Behavioral Health team, physicians, and inpatient units in planning and organizing admissions.
- Coordinate the business management of providing patient care services, including verifying patient demographics, identifying ability to pay for services, verifying insurance benefits, and pre-certifying services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in nursing, social work, psychology, counseling, or other human services field, required
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in psychiatric and chemical dependency assessments, required
- Current professional license to practice in Colorado or ability to obtain, as a PsyD, PhD, EdPsy, RN, LAC, LMFT, LPC, or LCSW, required
- Mandatory Crisis Management Training, required within one (1) year of hire
