The UW AUTISM Center (UWAC) is devoted to supporting families affected by AUTISM spectrum disorders through exceptional clinical services, innovative scientific research and high-quality training. UWAC is part of the Center on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington and incorporates faculty and staff from the UW School of Medicine, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Education. The UWAC currently has an outstanding opportunity for a full- time Behavior Technician (BT) at the Seattle Campus.

The Behavior Technician (Research Study Coordinator 1) will work amongst a team of professionals, including licensed psychologists, speech-language pathologists, board certified behavior analysts, medical professionals, faculty, graduate students, and pre- and post-doctoral fellows. This position will provide clinical services to individuals with autism spectrum disorders, providing/Implementing direct interventions to children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) using principles of applied behavior analysis under the supervision of a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analysts).

The position will support UW Autism Center-wide policies and procedures and workload standards. The position has additional complexities involving the ability to handle complex and sensitive situations regarding clinic patients.

Duties & Responsibilities

General Job Duties/Description:

  • To provide direct intervention to children (ages 12 months to 6 years) with ASD in a clinic setting.

  • To accurately record client intervention data and manage records.

  • To develop individualized materials used in therapy

  • To attend meetings, as necessary.


  • PROVIDE INTERVENTION

  • Work 1:1 with children age 12 months through 6years of age and their parents

  • Implement intervention protocols developed by BCBA to increase skills/reduce problem behaviors.

  • Provide responsible, positive, sensitive intervention and care during therapy.

  • Apply ABA principles in therapy; tailor procedures to fit individual interests/needs.

  • Work under close supervision of master's level BCBA.

  • Assist in completion of curriculum assessments, as necessary.


  • ORGANIZING/MAINTAINING THERAPY SPACE

  • Maintain clinic therapy spaces in an organized, clean, and child-proof manner.

  • Follow sanitizing and cleaning procedures.

  • Follow COVID-19 precaution procedures and protocols.

  • Set up therapeutic materials prior to start of program and clean up at end of program

  • Comply with snack, diaper, and toileting procedures to ensure hygiene and safety with clients.


  • DEVELOP MATERIALS

  • Create and produce picture cards, books, and other visual supports as needed for the therapy program.

  • Create and produce motivation charts, token boards, PECS icons, visual schedules, play materials, etc.


  • MANAGING RECORDS AND DATA COLLECTION

  • Organize and maintain computer and paper records of therapy including collecting and accurately recording data in each therapy session, graphing data, and completing treatment notes.


  • Requirements include:

  • Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.


  • Additional Requirements include:

  • Ability and willingness to interact with young children in a spontaneous and creative way

  • Excellent organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, personal flexibility, the ability to interact with parents, children, and professionals, and experience working with toddler/preschool/elementary-aged children.

  • This position involves physical care which may require moving children between the ages of 12-48 months as well as diaper changing and toilet training as needed.


  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Desired:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field (psychology, education, human/child development).
    • Training and experience with early intensive behavioral intervention for children with autism, early intervention for toddlers, developmental psychology, applied behavior analysis, special education, or related fields.
    • Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) credential in the state of Washington through the DOH.
    • Experience working directly with children and families with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

    Conditions of Employment:

    • *Employees must have 40-hour training according to the BACB Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Task List. Upon hire employees will be expected to pass a competency assessment and must be willing to complete Washington State requirements to work as a Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) through the WA State Department of Health.     • Employees MUST be available during ABA Day Program hours – 8:30-11:30 and 1:30-4:30 Tuesday- Friday. Schedule can be up to 40 hours – (Tuesday-Fridays 8:00-6:30) but is negotiable based on clinic need and applicant availability. Hours may be subject to change based on client need or schedule.
    • This position is subject to TB testing
