Job Description

Summary:

Oversees the activities of all the bars and bar service for Club members, guests and all functions involving alcoholic beverages. Maintains general standards of stocking glassware, liquor, beer, wine and miscellaneous bar supplies. Responsible for the beverage cost and payroll.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include but not limited to the following:

  • Performs monthly inventory of all bars to ensure proper stock is available and to identify possible shortages.
  • Stocks appropriate glassware for all shifts and notifies management of shortages.
  • Maintains bar sanitation procedures in compliance with Health Department regulations.
  • On occasion, may have to taste (taste is defined as sampling a small portion of an item) a member’s alcoholic beverage in response to a member complaint regarding the beverage.
  • Supervises all bar opening and closing duties including side work to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for setup and breakdown of all bars in restaurants and banquets.
  • Creates wine list and beverage list such as specialty cocktails and after dinner drinks, responsible for the implementation and maintenance of cocktail list themed to each outlet.
  • Assists with the setup of happy hour buffet table as necessary.
  • Schedules staff for adequate bar coverage.
  • Performs pre and post event inventory to accurately cost out each event.
  • Handles member complaints and issues.
  • Serves drinks to members and guests and supervises Bartenders so that the highest standards of customer service are met.
  • Controls the Bartenders on pours and quantity of liquor uses.
  • Trains new employees as well as existing staff members.
  • Manages payroll responsibilities for bar staff.
  • Assists with taking cocktail orders on the floor as necessary.
  • Maintains proper inventory levels of bar stock and orders liquor, beer, wine and miscellaneous supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Food & Beverage.
  • Communicates with members, co-workers, management, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret data and prepare reports.
  • Previous experience in an upscale restaurant, hotel/resort or club is preferred.
  • Must be able to work unusual hours including weekends and holidays
  • Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires inventory control and reordering skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well in English and in writing.
  • Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and members.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instruction in English.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises line employees in the Bars. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes recommendations as to the hiring and firing of employees.


Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus a minimum of two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificate from a bar tending school is preferred.


Language Skills:

Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Inventory software. Must be proficient with point-of-sale (POS) electronic ordering system.

Alcohol Awareness certificate.
