Job Description
Job Title: Automation Engineer
Location: Sugar Land, TX.

We are looking for an Automation Engineers to support our Cables Manufacturing Plant. In this exciting and dynamic role, you will be responsible for the design, development, documentation, testing, and commissioning of automation systems within constraints such as development cost, product quality, product safety, and time. In this role you will work closely with other engineering domains, such as mechanical, electrical, and IT, to solve cross domain problems that automate equipment, processes and business workflows related to the use of sensors, actuators, software, and IT infrastructure to accomplish a specific task.
Responsibilities:
  • Support senior technical team in the creation of a technical roadmap for manufacturing
  • Create intuitive human-machine interfaces using Ignition, FactoryTalk ME and Siemens WinCC
  • Program and debug ladder logic and structure text code on multiple PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley MicroLogix/CompactLogix/ControlLogix, Siemens Step 7 and Beckhoff TwinCAT)
  • Design and implement Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)/Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) according to ISA 95/IEC 62264 standard
  • Manage and support automation projects that involve cross functional teams such as manufacturing, sustaining and IT teams
  • Set up and tune VFDs and servo drives for smooth operations
  • Collaborate with process experts to design and implement process control systems in continuous manufacturing environment
Qualifications and skills:
  • Keeps abreast of key developments in relevant technologies and existing standards
  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science or Engineering with software experience or education.
    • Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience
    • Experience with PLC and Human-Machine Interfaces programming (Rockwell/Siemens/Ignition preferred)
    • Experience with motion control systems using variable-frequency drives and servos (Yaskawa/Powerflex/Kinetix/Sinamics preferred)
    • Experience in industrial communication protocols – OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, Profibus/Profinet, Ethernet/IP, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proven record of technical mentoring and technical writing
  • Experience with PLC and Human-Machine Interfaces programming (Rockwell/Siemens/Ignition preferred)
  • Practices effective listening techniques
  • Preferred qualifications
    • Proficiency in at least one general purpose language (Python, C, C++, JavaScript, C#, Java, etc.)
    • Proficiency in reading detailed electrical schematics
    • General understanding of web technologies (API, database, server, etc.)
    • Experience working independently in a large software setting
    • Excellent communication skills, with proven record of technical mentoring and technical writing
    • Expertise in industry standards for automation
  • Proficiency in at least one general purpose language (Python, C, C++, JavaScript, C#, Java, etc.)
  • Experience working independently in a large software setting
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
