Job Description
The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered 80% Athletic Trainer (32 hours a week) to work within our specialty clinics supporting our Sports Medicine Orthopedic Clinic in Cedar Rapids. This position will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team and provide direct assistance to other medical providers such as physicians, advanced practice providers, physical therapists, medical assistants, and registered nurses in providing care for our patients at UICC Cedar Rapids Orthopedic Clinic. We offer our patients comprehensive care teams which includes orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and other advanced care providers. For more than 100 years, the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation has provided some of the most advanced care by using state-of-the-art approaches to treatment.


Duties To Include


  • Collaborate with attending provider to apply or remove splints/casts/braces and fit crutches. Provide product education.
  • Perform initial patient intake including assessment, medical history, and physical examination.
  • Remove sutures and provide appropriate wound care and dressing changes.
  • Present patient to supervising provider including history, physical exam, pertinent test results, and working diagnosis.
  • Collaborate with attending provider to determine appropriate treatment plan, communicate with patient, and provide further home exercise/rehabilitation instruction as needed.
  • Assist physician in procedures as needed including preparing materials for pre- and post-injections and sutures, and preparation of patients’ treatment site.
  • Communicate via compliant phone/electronic means with patient, family, and their medical staff to follow up and enhance continuity of care.
  • Develop and distribute ongoing patient centered educational information including exercise instruction, gait training, wound care, and concussion management per the treating provider.
  • Coordinate and prepare patient medical records and imaging from outside providers prior to appointments to expedite clinic efficiency.
  • Document clinic patient visit according to documentation policies. Collect data and transcribe in the electronic medical record for LIP with appropriate cosign.
  • Providing support to other clinics to include but limited to: Urgent Care Clinics, QuickCare Clinics, etc.
  • Knowledge of health care policies for all clinical practices and applicable laws and regulations governing proper clinical practice; ability to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations.

Percent of Time: 80% (32 hours per week)


Schedule: Monday - Friday, Variable hours between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, No holiday’s, No weekends or on call, travel required to other clinics (as needed).

Pay Grade: 4A - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans


Salary $44,429 - $93,053 (based on years of experience)


Education
  • Master’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training


Required Qualifications


  • 1 - 3 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Working knowledge of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Board Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Experience working in a physician practice setting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Iowa Athletic Trainer License, or license eligible.


Desired Qualifications


  • Master's Degree in related field
  • Completion of an Athletic Training Residency Program.
  • OTC Certification
  • 3 - 5 years of experience as certified Athletic Trainer.
